Here are some of the top trails in the City of Dallas.

#10 Trinity Levee Greenbelt Trail

If you and your poochie are searching for a great hiking path in the heart of Dallas, the 6-mile Trinity Levee Greenbelt Trail may be exactly what you are looking for. Although you’re in the middle of a large muttropolis, you will think you’re in the country as the city sights, and sounds melt away. This shaded path is quiet and easy to hike with lots of critters about.

#9 Five Mile Creek Trail

You and your furever friend will love the Five Mile Creek Trail in this 317-acre park on South Marsalis. These are actually two trails that are due to be connected in the future, but you can connect them yourself by continuing along East Pentagon Parkway. You’re sure to see some vibrantly-colored wildflowers along the path as well as wildlife everywhere so bring your camera for these photo ops.

#8 Katy Trail of Dallas

This easy and pawpular 3.5-mile urban trail will take you and Fifi from downtown Dallas to uptown Dallas starting at Reverchon Park on Maple. You’ll enjoy the wooded paths with plenty of shade that trek past Thomsen Overlook, Lee Park, Dean Park, and Turtle Creek. There’s a plaza with a shaded seating area for you and your pup to take a break along the way as well.

#7 Northaven Trail

The Northaven Trail is a nice and easy 2.5-mile paved path with plenty of grassy, shaded spots along the trail to take a break if needed. In fact, at the beginning of the trail, you can find a shaded area with a couple of benches to relax before and after the hike. This is a quiet trek hidden from the busy streets and bustle of the city without having to drive far.

#6 Preston Ridge Trail

Preston Ridge Trail is a pawpular 6.3-mile journey through the thick woods in Northern Dallas. This paved path is furfect for everyone and is wheelchair and stroller accessible, so everyone can enjoy the hike. It’s an easy and mostly flat grade, but it is a bit lengthy, so make sure you bring enough H20 for you and Fifi. You’ll even pass through several community parks along the way.

#5 Santa Fe Trestle Trail

If you and your doggo only have a little time, try the Santa Fe Trestle Trail on South Riverfront Boulevard. It’s just short of one mile, and with zero gain in elevation, this easy trek is a quick, but exciting way to explore some nature in Dallas. You’ll be covered by huge trees in the Trinity Forest, but it still gets hot, so bring some H20 fur you and your pupster.

#4 L.B. Houston Trail

Between the Trinity River and Elm Fork Greenbelt in Northwest Dallas, the L.B. Houston Trail is a 6.5-mile hike with plenty to offur. Your poochie will enjoy the natural dirt and gravel paths with all the scents to sniff while you will love the view. The abundance of vibrantly-colored flowers along the path and pawesome sections of riverside areas provide lots of space for critters to hide so keep your camera handy.

#3 Great Trinity Forest Trail

The Great Trinity Forest Trail is the longest trail on the list, but it is also one of the best with 10 miles of outdoor fun just a short drive from Dallas. The Trinity Forest is well-known for its pawesome wildlife, amazing thickets of a variety of trees and wildflowers, as well as plentiful amenities for your convenience. There’s also a few small ponds that you and your fur buddy can explore along the path.

#2 Piedmont Ridge Trail

The Piedmont Ridge Trail on Jim Miller Road may only be 1.3 miles, but it provides a ton of furific space through the deep forest, which your canine kid is going to love. There’s some incline to get to the top of the ridge, but it’s worth it when you see the view of the Dallas skyline. You’ll pass some amazing meadows full of flowers and greenery and some cool vistas as well.

#1 Texas Buckeye Trail

This is a hike to remember so bring a camera along with your pooch, water, and snacks. True to its name, the 1.6-mile easy path is mostly in a forest of buckeye trees, which shade you and Fifi from the hot Texas sun. The path is natural dirt so it’s easy on the feet and paws and it is well-maintained, dotted with flowers, and full of adorable creatures like deer, otters, waterfowl, rabbits, and squirrels.
