Description

Enjoy a beautiful day out in Georgetown with Fido on the Winfred H. Bonner Trail! Despite being only a mile long, this lighted concrete path not only makes for a pleasant stroll in the city, but it also connects several parks where you can hang out with your furry BFF. So leash up your pup and put on your walking shoes—it's time to hit the trail!

Winding along the South San Gabriel River, the Winfred H. Bonner Trail starts at the Blue Hole Park, which features a scenic lagoon bordered by limestone bluffs. It then passes VFW Park and ends at the McMaster Athletic Complex, which is home to a number of sports fields and courts. As you and your pooch amble along, you'll find yourselves walking through urban green spaces and on the south bank of the river. About midway, the trail provides access to the San Gabriel Park via a pedestrian bridge over the water.

Keep in mind that this is a hike and bike trail, so you and Fido will be sharing the path with bicycles as well. Practice good trail petiquette by keeping your four-legged hiking buddy on a 6-foot leash and cleaning up after them at all times. Bring doggie waste bags and lots of water—while this isn't a very long trail, it's still impawtant to stay hydrated! If you're looking for human restrooms, you'll find them in the parks along the route. All of the parks also have parking, drinking fountains, and picnic areas where you and your pup can sit and take a break.

The Winfred H. Bonner Trail connects to other trails in the area, so you can extend your hike if your furry bundle of energy still wants to keep going. There's an off-leash dog park off the trail adjacent to the McMaster Complex as well.

For a woofderful city trek with your doggo, look no further than the Winfred H. Bonner Trail!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations

Portions of the trail have limited shade, so bring a hat and sunscreen. Also consider setting out when the sun isn't too strong—hot concrete and dog paws don't mix.
