Bakerville
In the Bakerville neighborhood of Mount Vernon, you and your pup can visit the Jefferson County Fairground where you can meander through open areas and take your pup for a long walk. Be sure to keep Fido on leash here. When events are held, some areas of the fairgrounds are not pup-friendly, so plan accordingly. Or maybe check out the Al Dawson Senior Park, which is right across the street from the fairgrounds! This small park offers open grassy areas where you and Fido can relax the day away and enjoy each other’s company. Restrooms are available at both locations.

West Mount Vernon
You and Fido can head to Lincoln Park, in the West Mount Vernon neighborhood, in the town of Mt. Vernon to spend a pawtastic day with your pup. Here you will find fur-iendly walking trails which are suited for all pup-abilities. There are also sports fields located here where you and Fido can enjoy watching a game in action. It is best to keep Fido on leash throughout the park and on the paved paths. You will find restrooms and water fountains on site but be sure to bring clean up mitts to keep this park pristine and forever pup-friendly.

In the nearby village of Bonnie, 8 miles south of Mt. Vernon, you and your pawtastic pup should visit the Rend Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area. This area boats over 18,900 acres of outdoor adventure for you and Fido. If you like boating, this is the place to be. You can put in your canoe, kayak or motorized boat and take Fido for a ride! Fishing is excellent here, so don’t forget your rod and reel. Or how about planning an overnighter with your fur-ever friend? The Rend Lake Resort has pup-friendly rooms and is located directly on the lake.

In the Broadway Street/ South 24th Street neighborhood of Mt Vernon, Veteran’s Memorial Park is waiting for you and your pawtastic pup to enjoy the day together. There are 86 acres of amenities to experience. Shaded playgrounds for the kiddies and sports courts are provided, as well as a scenic walking path which meanders around the lake. This path is perfect for all fitness level pups. Be sure to keep Fido on leash here. If you like to fish, you have come to the right place. Grab your pole, show off your casting skills and catch some fish for dinner!
Whittington
In the town of Whittington, 16 miles south of Mount Vernon, you and your pawtastic pup will find the Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, a must-visit location on Rend Lake. This pup-friendly park has 2000 acres of land dedicated to picnickers, boating enthusiasts and campers. There is another 1000 acres which are reserved for hikers, hunters and are frequented by wildlife lovers! Take your pup on a walking trail to enjoy the scenery. Be sure to check out the dog field trials that are held here throughout the year to watch pups in action! Don’t forget your leash, camera and plenty of water.
