Head to the Callahan-Franklin Dog Exercise Area in the Larsen Nature Preserve to treat your furry friend to some off-leash recreation. There are separate fenced enclosures where small and large dogs can safely romp and play together. Each side includes benches and tables for the owners, water stations, and waste bags. Be respectful and make sure to clean up after your pup. In addition to a play space, this facility also offers a range of services such as obedience classes, agility training, fitness with Fido workout sessions, and more.

N Delaney Rd/Oak Grove Ave

In the N Delaney Rd/Oak Grove neighborhood, you and your pooch have access to a pawtastic place to explore nature. Head to the County Forest Preserve that runs along Skokie Highway. This linear green space surrounds the Des Plaines River. Walk along the paved trail through wetlands, fields, and forested areas while you share some one-on-one time with your special pal. Head north toward the Sedge Meadow Forest Preserve, or hike south and east to connect with the Village Park Trail. Dogs are welcome to accompany you along the trails in these areas, provided you keep them on a leash and pick up any waste.

From the neighborhood of Beach Park, you and Fido can head to the Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park. Go hiking along the trails in the wooded areas of the park. With over five miles of trails, you and your pooch will be able to get plenty of exercise. Reserve a campsite and spend some time under the stars with your special pal. Dogs are permitted in the campsites, picnic areas, and interior parts of the park as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up their waste. Please do not take your four-footed friend to the beach area or into the nature preserve.

The neighborhood of Washington St/S Green Bay Rd has some lovely community parks for you and your furry friend to investigate. Leash up your pup and head to Park in the Glen on Lucia Avenue. This 5. 7-acre facility includes a boardwalk and path for hiking or jogging. Stretch your legs as you wander through wetlands and under a canopy of trees with your special buddy. When you want to get a serious workout, take Fido down to the Greenbelt Forest Preserve. This expansive facility has a one-mile nature path and five miles of trails for running or walking. Remember to keep your pup on a leash while using these facilities.
N Avenue/W Greenwood Ave

N Avenue/W Greenwood Ave

You and Fido can take your pick between a few open spaces when you want to get some fresh air in the N Avenue/W Greenwood Ave neighborhood. Head over to Bowen Park and get out on the exercise trail that wanders through fields and woods. When you want to explore nature, head north to Lyons Woods Forest Preserve. Enjoy the wildlife and scenery with your canine companion as you hike the 2.5 miles of gravel trails in this 272-acre facility. Dogs are welcome on the trails in both parks, provided they're kept on a leash and you clean up after them.
