Foss Park Avenue
This North Chicago neighborhood is home to Foss Park, a furrific community park that welcomes dogs on-leash. This 32-acre park has a bandstand, sports fields, and a large playground. It also offers beautiful views of Lake Michigan, and it has lovely open fields where your pup can roll around in the grass. Take your pup for a stroll on the park’s flat, paved sidewalks, and enjoy seeing everything this park has to offer. After the park, continue your fun day out with lunch at 5 Points Restaurant. This all-American restaurant has been serving classic burgers, hot dogs, and milkshakes for over 40 years and welcomes dogs at its six outdoor tables.

Want to take your dog for a walk through the woods? Head over to North Chicago’s Greenbelt Forest Preserve. This picturesque preserve welcomes dogs on-leash, and it offers five miles of hiking trails. These hiking trails go through peaceful wooded areas, past stunning lakes, and by prairies and wetlands. If you’re looking for a short, easy walk to take with your pup, the Greenbelt Preserve also has a fun one-mile, self-guided nature trail. Bring water for yourself and your pup and some doggy bags, and have a great time hiking with your dog in this woof-derful North Chicago nature preserve!

South Waukegan Road
Looking for a good place to let your pup play off-leash? Head over to West Lake Forest’s Prairie Wolf Dog Park. This huge, 44-acre dog park is 10 miles from North Chicago, and it has a large, fenced-in field where your pup can run and play, trails your dog can explore off-leash, and training enclosures. The dog park also has a pond your pup can swim in on hot days, and drinking water is available. To use this fun dog park, you’ll have to get an annual or daily permit for your pup. You can order this in advance online, or you can pick one up from the self-pay station right outside the dog park.

North Milwaukee Ave
If you’re looking for another good off-leash area for your pup, check out Independence Grove Dog Exercise Area. Located seven miles from North Chicago, this 30-acre fenced area has open fields where your pup can frolic to their heart’s content. There’s also a river your pup can swim in, trails they can walk on off-leash, and drinking water. To use the dog park, you’ll have to get an annual or daily permit. Once you get that, you’ll be free to use the dog park for as long as you’d like! If you want to get a bite to eat after playing at the dog park, check out Jimmy’s Charhouse. This eatery welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables and offers steaks, baby-back ribs, burgers, and much more.

Keeler Avenue
If you want to take your pup for an on-leash walk in a unique park, check out Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park. This park is 27 miles from North Chicago, and it includes flat and paved paths that wind through open fields filled with stunning sculptures made out of steel, glass, concrete, and aluminum. The north channel of the Chicago River also runs through the park, providing amazing water views. Bring doggy bags with you, and have a great time strolling through this park! If your pup is a good boy at the park, stop at Starbucks afterward and grab them a puppuccino. Enjoy your drinks at one of Starbuck’s dog-friendly outdoor tables.
