The city of Avon, Indiana is filled with great things to do with dogs. This suburban city has four parks that welcome dogs on-leash, and it also has a furrific off-leash dog park. If you want to go out to eat with your dog, there are four good options here. And if your pup needs to see a veterinarian, there are three clinics in Avon.

For a fun day out with your dog, head over to Washington Township Park. This community park is home to Avon’s off-leash dog park, and it has five miles of trails that welcome dogs on-leash. Washington Township Park is also home to preserved wooded areas, a pond where you can go fishing, open green spaces, a large gazebo, and much more.

If you want to go hiking with your dog, check out Burnett Woods Nature Preserve. This 80-acre preserve allows dogs on-leash, and it’s full of trees that are native to Indiana. Plus, in spring, there are beautiful wildflowers throughout the park. You can see all these sights on Burnett Woods' 1.7-mile loop trail, which goes around the whole preserve. If your dog loves running off-leash and making new friends, take them over to Avon-Washington Township Paw Park. This dog park has separate grassy areas for large dogs and small dogs. There’s also agility equipment for your dog to play on, including ramps, tires, and hurdles. If your dog gets thirsty, water is available in the park. To use this pawesome park, you’ll have to fill out a Paw Park application and pay a small fee. Then, bring your form over to the Washington Township Park Office, where you can choose to purchase either a day pass or an annual pass.

This neighborhood is home to Avon Town Hall Park, an 83-acre park that welcomes dogs on-leash. Here, you and your dog can go on a stroll on the park’s two miles of flat, paved walking trails. These trails go past Avon Town Hall’s fields of native Indiana prairie grass and a lovely bright blue lake. If you need a doggy bag, there are pet waste stations located all along this trail. If you’re hungry after your walk, go for lunch with your pup at Yats Cajun Creole. Sit at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy traditional Cajun and Creole dishes, like gumbo, jambalaya, and crawfish.

For another great walk with your dog, head over to Holliday Park in Indianapolis’ Warfleigh neighborhood. This beautiful park is about 20 miles from Avon. The park allows dogs on-leash, and it features numerous trails that go through wooded areas and past unique ruins. If your dog likes going in the water, you can let them splash around in the park’s creek. Bring your dog some water and some doggy bags and have a fun time hiking here. If you want to grab lunch afterwards, there are many delicious dog-friendly options near Holliday Park. Indianapolis’ Westover neighborhood is home to the great off-leash Humane Society of Indianapolis Dog Park. This large dog park is about 19 miles from Avon, and it has a grassy field where dogs can run and play. It also has a fenced-in area filled with agility equipment, including tunnels and ramps. There’s also a beautiful 1.5-mile wooded trail you can hike on with your dog. If your dog gets thirsty, water is available in the park. To use this dog park, you’ll have to register your dog with the Humane Society and pay a fee. Once you do that, you’ll be given your own key fob, allowing you to use the dog park anytime you’d like!

For a pawesome walk with your pup, head over to Hummel Park. This park is only five miles down the road from Avon, and it welcomes dogs on-leash. For stunning views of Hummel’s Blue Heron Lake, take the flat and paved Blue Heron Path. If you’re just in the mood for a short walk, take the Red Maple Path, which loops around Hummel’s baseball and softball fields. Or, you can take the nature trail, which offers lovely views of Hummel’s rain garden. Whichever path you choose, you’re sure to have a fun time hiking here!
