Dane is a small village located about 20 miles northwest of Madison. Here, you and Fido can go for walks along residential streets or down country roads past fields. Although dogs are not permitted in the local parks, you and Fido will have easy access to several natural areas, dog-friendly parks, and trails from this location. The nearest veterinarian is located in Waunakee, just over six miles southeast of Dane.

Take your furry friend to Indian Lake Dog Park in Cross Plains, about ten miles southwest of Dane. This off-leash facility is located near the boat launch of the 483-acre county park. An annual permit that provides access to all Dane County dog parks is required here.

Another pet exercise area where you can let your special pal get some canine socialization and exercise off-leash is located in Yahara Heights County Park. The designated pet area is 20 acres in size and includes water access. Roam along the trails and follow the Yahara River with your pooch here. This facility is about 11 miles southeast of Dane.

At the MRD Dog Exercise Area off Highway Q in Middleton, you can put your pooch through his paces. This 3-acre facility includes an agility course, mowed trails, and a picnic area. Bring along a snack and some water and let your buddy romp freely. Remember to pick up any waste. You can purchase a visitor permit by self-registration on-site.

This 34.6-acre undeveloped area is fed by springs, and there's a creek that wanders through the property. Here, you can explore a range of habitats including wetland, prairie, and forest. Hike along the trail that winds through the facility with your four-footed friend. Dogs can join you here as long as they're on a leash that's no longer than eight feet. The Northern Corridor neighborhood of DeForest, located about nine miles from Dane, is a quiet residential area located next to a furiffic park. Here, you and Fido can go for a walk down peaceful streets. When you want to let your pooch get some exercise with other canines, take him to the Marvin & Marie Schweers Dog Park, located off Grinde Road. This 5-acre facility includes a separate fenced area for more timid dogs. Residents may use this facility free of charge. There is a small daily or annual fee for non-residents. Make sure you pick up any droppings when you visit the park.

In this area, you can walk along the trails in Waunakee Village Park, off E Main Street. When you want to go for a long jog or hike, head to North Ridge Park off N Ridge Drive and connect to the Westport-Waunakee Trail. This paved pathway heads south through Scenic Valley Park and Prairie Park, past the elementary school, and connects with sidewalks in residential areas. Dogs are permitted to join you here if they're on a leash up to six feet long.
