Vallejo may be well known for its amusement park and Bay Area location, but it’s actually the kingdom of dogs. Canines are kings in Vallejo, as evidenced by the 10 veterinary clinics inside the city. The community clearly cares about dogs very much, and the people who care too will have a great time visiting Vallejo. Start your day right with classic breakfast treats on The Good Day Cafe’s dog friendly outdoor patio!

Blue Rocks Park Spring Trail is an out and back, 3.9 mile trail of moderate difficulty. It offers great views of the upper bay once you reach the top, and at any point you can turn around and cut your hike a little short. Another great trail is Vallejo-Benicia Buffer Trail to Dolores Bench, a longer out and back that clocks in at 4.3 miles. Keep your pup on leash on either trail!

When night comes, bed down in one of Vallejo’s many pet friendly hotels. You can sleep without a pet fee at Motel 6 Vallejo Six Flags West, or for a small fee, you and your dogs could spend the night in Ramada Inn Napa Valley Vallejo or Courtyard Vallejo Napa Valley. Wherever you stay, it’ll be a great basecamp for exploring this woofderful city.

Downtown is a great, walkable neighborhood to take your dog. If you want to take him into a park to work off some steam before dinner, head to City Park right in the heart of downtown. Keep your pup on a leash inside the park, and explore the grassy area around the playground. Once you’re hungry, head to LEAF. This cozy cafe offers patio seating that's dog friendly. For a morning pick me up, head over to Java Jax, a classic breakfast and coffee java spot where the outdoor tables welcome dogs.

The Wilson Lake Dalwigk Park in South Vallejo is a pawsome place for dogs to engage their senses. The park is large and features four baseball diamonds. The size alone will be enough to wear out most dogs; just do a couple laps and you’ve gotten in their daily walk! The presence of people, sights of a game, and the smells of nature all combine to make this a fun and stimulating environment for dogs. Bring a doggie bowl with you; there are plenty of fountains, but they’re hard to operate with paws.

The Dan Foley Park in Harry Floyd Terrace is a large park with plenty to do for the whole family. In addition to the standard play and picnic areas, the park boasts a fishing area and a community center. Your pup will have to miss going inside, but he’s welcome everywhere else as long as he stays on leash. The park is large enough to be an interesting walk even if you visit it often. Walk the perimeter and stick to the less populated areas to get more of a natural feeling. Bring your own doggie bowl, but the water is free!

Hanns Park, inside of Vallejo’s Hanns Park neighborhood, is a beautiful throwback to the wilderness. The park is large undeveloped, with few amenities, making it a perfect place to walk your dog! There are hiking trails throughout the area, so you can plan ahead for the kind of walk you and your dog prefer. You should remember to bring your own water bowl and bottle with you, since the park doesn’t feature fountains along the trails. Hanns Park is prized for its pretty views, but there is also a small BBQ area for a party after your hike.

Wardlaw Park in East Vallejo has a dog park inside it! The Wardlaw Dog Park is a 2.2 acres, and a fully fenced in slice of doggie heaven! Bring your pup of any size to the park; there is a separate area for smaller dogs, so everyone can find the right playmate for them. Your dogs can run and play off leash, and you can chase with them or enjoy another of the park’s fine features: benches for the owners. The park offers great views of the lake, and as a pupular local destination, your dog can always find a friend.

"Elana was very sweet, sharp and patient! All the qualities I need in handling my too big rambunctious dogs. Collectively they weighed more than she did! My dogs are rescues and are they are also not very well trained but I felt completely comfortable with Elana being able to deal with any situation. Really nice to know that there are forwarding possibilities in home or away with wag. Wag is also very well run! I never review anything but these people deserve all thumbs up! Sherry"
