West State Street

West State Street is a well-known street that will take you right to one of the popular parks in Black Mountain. Riverwalk Park has its own walking trails, picnic areas, and a dog park for its four-legged visitors to have some off-leash fun! Tomahawk Avenue/Laurel Circle Drive

At the intersection of Tomahawk Avenue and Laurel Circle Drive is the entrance to Lake Tomahawk Park. This park is the gem of the town and gives visitors a safe and beautiful place to get some exercise across 16 acres of land! You can hike, picnic, and even fish in this park! The park welcomes families with dogs to visit and enjoy the walking trails and the view of the local lake. Dogs will need a leash, and you will need to be sure to pick up after your pooch, as the park is visited by many humans and pups throughout the year.

Montreat

Robert Lake Park is a pupular destination in the heart of the town of Montreat, just a few minutes away from Black Mountain. This park has lots of scenic rocky streams that run through the whole park. Visitors with children appreciate the unique layout of the playground equipment, which gives children a more interesting play scene! There are small waterfalls and other places to stop and take it all in, and your dog is welcome to join your family as long as he has a leash on and minds his best manners. There is also a lake nearby where paddle boating and canoeing are common activities.

Downtown Black Mountain is the place to be if you get hungry while you are out and about with your dog! Veranda is one restaurant with a dog-friendly back deck where you can order soup and salad or a wrap that will meet all of your expectations. Dark City Deli and Pub is a 100-year-old building turned tavern where you can enjoy modern sandwich delights with your dog on the outdoor patio. Louise's Kitchen is a pupperific brunch spot with everything from sandwiches to quesadillas for your enjoyment! Chimney Rock State Park

Chimney Rock State Park is only a half-hour away from Black Mountain. It is home to Lake Lure and is a truly amazing place for nature lovers to enjoy a variety of activities that are great for the whole family! The park has a flavorful history of its own and was the set of the film Dirty Dancing. There are seven different trails to choose from, so make sure you have a fully stocked pack and a good harness for your pup's comfort. There's also outdoor rock climbing and even an animal den discovery area. You can join in on one of the many outdoor educational experiences year-round, or just enjoy some of the best mountain views for miles.
