Located in Bay Village, Ohio, Columbia Park's 1.6 acres is a pawtastic place to take a leashed stroll on its green grass. But even better, it's got a wooftacular dog-friendly beach!!
Once formally known as the "Bay Village Dog Beach," it's name was changed to Columbia Beach to reflect the fact that the beach is not intended to be used by off leash dogs, but is actually a municipal beach for everyone. Dogs are allowed on the beach, but need to stay leashed at all times.
This puptastic oasis not only offers you access to a refreshing swim for you and your pooch in Lake Erie, but also a view of the beautiful waterfall, Columbia Beach Falls, which cascades off of a 40 foot shale bluff that travels down one side of the park to the lake. Parking at the beach is easy, with a parking lot located right across the street from the park. Heading down the one paved path through the park will you get to an observation deck for the waterfall, a patio area, and bike racks. A set of 67 stone stairs lead you down to the beach. Note that these stairs are closed from December to March, meaning the beach is open from April to November.
The beach is a 15 foot wide mix of sand, shells, shale and glacial till. You can romp in the sand, look for shells, or splash in the water with your beach pup. Be aware that at times the beach can be flooded due to a rise in water levels, and at other times, the water can be contaminated after rain storms. Garbage bins can be found within the park and along the beach, so remember to bring clean-up bags and pick up any waste your pup leaves behind! Also be sure to have water on hand to share with your thirsty pup. There aren't any human bathrooms, so plan accordingly. Make sure to catch a glimpse of the waterfall from the beach!
Bay Village pups know the happening place is at the pupperific Columbia Beach inside Columbia Park!
