Your dog will agree- sometimes it’s just nice to sit by the ocean and soak in the sunshine. If your pup is in need of a little pick me up, grab the leash and head over to Le’ahi Beach Park. Situated in the foothills of Diamond Head, this oceanfront pawperty is the pawfect place to spend some quality time with your furry BFF.
Before paying a visit to this beach park, you should know
that it’s not like the other expansive white sand beaches Oahu is known for. In
fact, it’s barely a beach at all. The sandy surf itself is quite narrow. If the tide is in, the water comes right up to the seawall,
leaving no sand at all. However, when the tide is out, there is just enough
sand for you and your pupster to take a stroll along the water’s edge so
the waves can roll across your feet and your dog’s paws. Dogs must remain on
leash, but they are allowed to go anywhere below the seawall.
Since this beach isn’t very crowded, it’s ideal for just hanging out or chillaxing under a palm tree. It’s also a furrific spot to watch a gorgeous Hawaiian sunset. When your pup is finished frolicking in the seawater, take a stroll around the grassy field. Or stick around for a picnic.
The beach park has no parking lot of its own. Either park
a quarter of a mile away at Kapiolani Park, or try and nab a spot on the
surrounding streets. Do your part to keep the beach free of doggy debris and carry
a clean up bag or two. Also, your pup
will be most appreciative if you bring plenty of cold drinking water.
For a puptacular afternoon out with your pooch, stop by
