Makalei Beach Park

Sandwiched between Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head Beach is a small, but woofderful, sandy beach. Makalei Beach Park may not be the biggest beach on Oahu, but it’s definitely worth checking out. When visiting, your doggo will love strolling along the surf and gazing out at the ocean.

Since it’s smaller and not as pupular, Makalei Beach Park is the pawfect alternative to the crowded nearby beaches. Makalei Beach Park has a seawall that divides the sand from the adjacent houses. The good news is that your doggo is allowed to be on the beach anywhere below the seawall, on leash of course. This means your four legged pal can pretty much go everywhere on this pawsome beach and experience everything it has to offer!

Due to an offshore reef, this isn’t the best beach for swimming, so you won’t see many two legged visitors enjoying the water. However, your pup can dip their paws in the blue seawater or have a blast while chasing the waves. If they’d rather not get wet, mosey along the sand and let your pup check out all the new smells. 

Since this is a beach park, there are a couple amenities that make your visit nice and easy. Bring a sandwich and enjoy an oceanfront lunch at one of the picnic tables. Just make sure you don’t forget to pack a couple biscuits for your pooch. Or spread a blanket on the sand. Several tall trees provide shade. There is also a shower station to rinse off muddy feet and paws. Be sure to have clean up bags on hand, as well as plenty of drinking water.

A trip to Makalei Beach Park will definitely make your dog’s tail wag!
