Wai'alea Beach Park is located in Kahala on Oahu's south shore, making it a great location to catch a sunrise or sunset. The beach is scenic enough to be a popular wedding location, but still maintains a more laid-back, local vibe than other beaches in the area. One of the beach park's unique features, is the Wai'alae Stream that flows straight through the park and into the ocean. This stream has formed a wide channel through the reef. Connecting both sides of the park over the stream is a pretty white stone bridge.
This beach park can be found right next to the Kahala Hotel and Resort, on Kahala Avenue. There is a small parking lot, but it fills up quickly on a beautiful day. You may need to prepare to wait for a spot, or find street parking in the surrounding area. Doggos are allowed in areas below the high tide line, meaning the oceanside of the line often marked by seaweed and ocean debris. Your pal may not be able to join you in the park, but is more than welcome in the sand and surf.
The waves at Wai'alea Beach Park are gentle; with the major surf action being a few hundred yards out. The water is pawfect for your pal to romp around while you wade. It's also an ideal location for certain water sports like wind surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and kayaking. There are great fishing opportunities here, and you may some other wildlife as well, such as sea turtles.
Puppers will continue to be welcome at this beach, as long as they stay leashed, picked up after, and below the high tide line. Be sure to bring plenty of fresh drinking water for you and your pal. Dogs that drink the ocean water can become dehydrated quickly. With clean up bags, and any other beach essentials, you are ready for a great day in the sun!
Wai'alea Beach Park is a furtastic way to enjoy the ocean with your pup!
