Located in Pike County, Arkansas, the Cowhide Cove Campground can be found on the shores of Lake Greeson. Lake Greeson is part of the Little Missouri River and is a man-built lake made in the 50s to control the river’s floods. Over time, marinas, public parks, and campgrounds have sprung to life on these scenic shores.Â
The Cowhide Cove Campground is located about two miles off Route 27, which makes it a popular location for anyone trying to get away from the busy daily routine. The grounds offer 50 well-equipped campsites, 48 of which have electric hook-ups, while two are tent-only sites (no hook-ups). A picnic table, pedestal, ground grill, and lantern pole are available at each campsite for extra amenities. Alongside these are the hot showers, flushing toilets, picnic area, and playground. The campgrounds oversee a swimming beach on the shores of Lake Greeson and include an easily-accessible boat ramp.Â
The 12-mile-long lake is perfect for boating, fishing, and swimming, and the surrounding 30 miles of trails offer beautiful scenic views and wildlife-spotting opportunities. There are four marinas on the lake that are stocked with picnic and fishing supplies, and you can also rent boats there or refuel your own. Fishing is the most popular activity thanks to the diversity of fish in the lake – from varieties of bass and catfish to crappie, bluegill, and walleye, with smallmouth bass and rainbow trout available just below the dam.
This is a dog-friendly site that also allows big dogs, but when outside of your tent or vehicle, you will have to keep your dog on a leash. You are free to walk them on nearby trails, but make sure they don’t disturb other campers. As always, keep your campsite clean and remember to clean up after your dog.Â
