Deerlick Creek Campground is a popular camping spot near Tuscaloosa in Alabama. It’s located on the banks of the Holt Lake, which is one of the six lakes that form the Black Warrior Tombigbee Waterway. Its location on the shoreline makes it a favorite spot of those who enjoy water sports and activities. This campground is very popular, so it’s best to call ahead to check for availability as a lot of the sites available are on a first come, first served basis.
The campsite is peppered with hardwood trees and pine, providing ample shade for most of its 46 camping sites. All sites are level, padded with asphalt, and provide partial or full hookup, while some sites remain tent camping exclusives. The camping sites are spaced out generously, so you won’t be seeing much of other campers. Each site is equipped with a fire pit, grills, and picnic tables.Â
The views are beautiful, and the campsite is very still during the night except for the sounds of the nearby dam that actually helps put most to sleep quickly. The waterway is popular among fishermen because it’s rich with catfish, bass, and bream. You can also enjoy water sports, swimming and boating on Holt Lake, or going for a stroll, hike, or bike on one of the nearby trails. Those who enjoy bird watching will have plenty to see, since bluebirds, various migratory species, as well as wild turkey are plentiful in the area. You can also spot the occasional squirrel or deer.Â
As a pet-friendly campground, Deerlick Creek is a great spot to bring your canine buddy. There are some rules that you and your dog should abide by: do not disturb other campers, always make sure to clean up, and keep your doggie at their best behavior.Â
