Description

Fresh air, a serene, pine-filled environment that you can truly relax in, and countless recreation opportunities and outdoor adventures within reach -- this and so much more is what you will find at the remote Fenske Lake Campground in Ely, Minnesota. This pet-friendly campground is the pawfect place for a weekend getaway with your family and its four-legged members, as well as a fisherman’s paradise that you can enjoy with your friends.

The cozy campground gets its name from the 130-acre Fenske Lake and offers tent and small RV camping. There are a total of 15 campsites, ten of which are tent-only and one that is ADA-accessible. The sites are well spaced out from each other, and each campsite can host up to 9 people. There is also a separate group campsite that can be found on a rock ledge, nestled between mature hardwoods and away from the main sites. The group site can accommodate 10 to 25 people. It overlooks the lake and offers breathtaking views, as well as a small picnic area and a historic log shelter. Each single-family site comes with a tent pad, a fire ring, and lantern posts. The campground features a solar-powered well, an outhouse, and a fishing pier on-site.

Since the campground lies within the 3-million acre Superior National Forest, it attracts not only hikers, anglers, and boating enthusiasts, but also a large variety of wildlife. Common encounters include moose, beavers, and whitetail deer as well as eagles, bears, red fox, and wolves. This is one of the reasons the campground’s guidelines state that all pets must remain supervised and leashed at all times during their visit. Superior National Forest is also home to three scenic byways, 77 lakes, ten sandy swimming beaches, 13 fishing piers, and over 20 picnic areas!

With tons to do, from breaking a sweat with your furry buddy on one of the 12 hiking trails or spending your days canoeing down one of the canoe routes that run for over 1,200 miles in the 1-million acre Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness, you and your four-pawed buddy will have an unfurgettable time together at Fenske Lake Campground!
