Okatoma Resort and RV Park is run by seasoned RVers who recently took ownership and are already making plans to upgrade the park's amenities. The setting is impressive, with three magical lakes where campers can aim for the catch of the day or enjoy the waterfront views.
If getting away from traffic jams and office schedules is your vacation plan, this is the place to roll the RV onto a fairly level, grassy pad with plenty of room between you and the camper next door. Expect full hookups to electricity with a choice of 30 or 50 amp, water, and sewer, plus easy back-in and pull-through access. A picnic table is provided, along with enough space for a fire grill.
Internet users can check their emails at the clubhouse, and cable TV is available for $10 a night. The overall daily rate is $38 to $40 and $35 for backpackers wanting to pitch a tent.
If you prefer a few more home comforts, the resort offers a partially furnished, one-bedroom cabin overlooking the lake complete with a bathroom, microwave, and fridge. There's a total of 12 cabins to choose from if you prefer something a little different. Daily rates range from $80 to $100.
The resort is family-friendly, offering a swimming pool and playground for the kids. Restrooms, showers, and the laundry facility are on the new hosts' list for a revamp but are always kept clean. Their fenced dog park is a blessing for furry friends who can shake off their leash and enjoy time out with other resort pups. Pooch parents do their part by supplying litter bags and picking up their camping canine's waste. Daily walks around the lakes are a furrific way to get in some exercise. The path to the highway is a one-way trek and gets you closer to Hattiesburg, a Mississippi city with an arena of outdoor fun. Kids will be wowed by the animals at the Hattiesburg Zoo and fascinated with the Medicine Wheel Garden and the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum.
