Nestled in the spectacular foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Tishomingo State Park provides easy access to some of Mississippi's best natural scenery. Located around 45 miles northeast of Tupelo, this gorgeous park offers ample opportunities for year-round outdoor fun and adventure.
The centerpiece of the park is the breathtaking Bear Creek Canyon, which boasts magnificent sandstone outcroppings that'll be sure to have you reaching for your camera regularly. Canoe trips and fishing are both available in Bear Creek, while Tishomingo State Park is also home to the 45-acre Haynes Lake, a freshwater lake popular with anglers.
For those who love nature hikes, the park boasts around 13 miles of trails. There are seven separate trails of differing lengths, but all provide easy to moderate walking. There's a stack of other attractions for outdoor adventurers to enjoy, including disc golf, a compass course, playgrounds, a multi-use field, volleyball court, and a swimming pool. Rock climbing is also available by permit.
A 62-site campground is available for RV camping and sits in a lovely wooded area on the edge of Haynes Lake. There are also two primitive campgrounds featuring a total of 17 sites, and pets are welcome on all sites. Seven cabins are available as well but do not permit pets.
Speaking of pets, if visiting with your furry friend in tow, make sure you stick to the designated park areas and follow all other rules and regulations. These include keeping your pooch on a leash of six feet or shorter, and ensuring they're controlled and supervised at all times. As always, you'll also need to clean up after your dog and dispose of their waste responsibly.
Whether you're looking to just relax and take in the natural beauty or tackle any one of a number of outdoor activities, Tishomingo State Park has plenty of attractions to make it a grrr-eat pet-friendly camping destination.
