Shouse Ford is a popular campground located below the Quachita Mountains on the banks of DeGray Lake. It is a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts and offers plenty of opportunities for recreation, be it fishing or water sports.
Lake DeGray formed in the 70s after a dam was built on the Caddo River. The surface spans over 13,400 acres and allows for bank and boat fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking, water skiing, and other water activities. It can be easily accessed via a boat ramp and around the shores, you will find designated hiking and horseback riding trails.
The camping grounds consist of 100 campsites equipped with 50-amp electric hook-ups. All sites are back-in sites and support vehicles up to 75 ft in length. The sites are spacious and equipped with a designated tent pad, BBQ, picnic table, and fire pit, and camping sites are available for reservation online. Note that some of them are also available on a first come, first serve basis.Â
The campground amenities include access to drinking water, hot showers, restrooms with flush toilets, and a dump station, as well as a playground and two sandy beaches on DeGray Lake, which are the campground’s highlight and favorite spots. Nearby attractions include the National Scenic 7 Byway and the DeGray Lake Resort State Park, equipped with tennis and golf courses, as well as the Hot Springs and Quachita National Forest.
If you plan to bring your dog along, you’ll be happy to hear it’s a pet-friendly campground. There are no breed restrictions, but you will have to keep your dog leashed outside of your vehicle and they have a maximum length limit for leashes of 6ft. Remember to always clean up after your dog and dispose the waste in the right containers on site.
