If you and your pooch are looking for a convenient place to camp out on the Arkansas River, Wilbur D Mills Campground might be the pawfect spot for you guys to pitch your tent! Conveniently located thirteen miles from Dumas, AR, the 21-site campground is right next to the recreational opportunities of the Wilbur D Mills Lock and Dam. Pups and people partial to their creature comforts will be glad to know that water and electricity hookups, as well as hot showers, are available right on site. The campground is little known outside the locality, so this is an excellent option for those looking for a little privacy, but as always, it's best to make a reservation to ensure your spot. A word to the wise -- if you have booked your spot in advance, you’ll need to check in at the gate lodge in Pendleton Bend Park, three and a half miles west of the campground on State Highway 212 East.

The main draw of the Wilbur D Mills Dam area is the fishing -- keen anglers will be glad to know that the reservoir created by the dam is well-stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish. If casting a line isn’t your idea of a good time, don’t worry -- you’ll find some fantastically Fido-friendly hiking trails just a little fur-ther afield at Merrisach Lake. Hound-dog history buffs might get a kick of out of a trip to the Arkansas Post National Memorial, a site that commemorates the first European settlement west of the Mississippi.

Wifi isn’t available at Wilbur D Mills Campground, and cellular coverage varies, so check with your network if you need to be constantly contactable. Otherwise, set that out-of-office email response and relax! Campfires are allowed, but the campground asks that you don’t move firewood. Remember to bring waste bags for your four-pawed pal, and have a pawesome trip!
