Get some fresh air with your pooch on the beautiful hiking trails of Arroyo Park in Bellingham, where canines are more than welcome to join you off-leash. It is important for dog owners to remember that the area is unfenced and dogs must be supervised closely to prevent problems, such as running away or hurting other people. Trails are shared with joggers and bikers, so it is important for dog owners to be aware of their surroundings. There are also several families with young children during weekends.
The park is close enough to town so you certainly have ample time to take your dog after work, but it gives you the feeling of being in the middle of the forest, with the exception of noise coming from the freeway every now and then reminding you exactly where you are. Located in the south neighborhood off Chuckanut Drive on Old Samish Road, car owners will be happy to know that there is a gravel parking area along Samish Road.
The beautiful, forested park has a creek to splash in, a hike leading to a beautiful waterfall and trails leading upward to a larger network of the Chuckanut Mountain trails, which are not off leash. It is a great place to go to for a walk, run or even a bike ride with your best canine friend. There are plenty of things to do and the park is large, your dog will have the time of his life running around.
The Arroyo Park Off-Leash Dog Area does not have any playground or other facilities as it has been intentionally kept rustic. So make sure you use the toilet before you leave for the park. However, a few minutes in the park with your pooch is going to make you feel grounded, revitalized, and connected with nature.
