Baraga State Park

The Baraga State Park is the pawfect destination to spend some quality time with your pooch. Nestled on the shores of Keweenaw Bay on Lake Superior, this mid-sized state park is beautiful and a great spot to escape the hustle and bustle of life. Unlike most Michigan State Parks, Baraga State Park has a pet friendly beach. This means your pooch can join you by the water’s edge. They’ll love splashing in the water and dipping their paws in the cool lake, especially on hot summer days. Clean up bags are available, so make sure you always pick up after your pooch. The park also has a nature trail that is worth checking out. Let your pup be the guide as you explore this pawsome pathway. Park visitors can also fish, boat, search for geocaches, and watch for wildlife.

Your pup will love this place so much that they will want to stay the night, so bring a couple sleeping bags and grab a spot in the campground. Electric hookups are available, as are pull through sites. There are also plenty of tent sites. Nothing beats spending a night under the stars with your favorite four legged friend! If you are just visiting for the day, enjoy an outdoor meal with your pup at one of the picnic areas. Don’t forget to bring a biscuit or two for your pal, and water to share! Always have clean-up bags on hand too, and pick up after your pup.

When it comes to visiting Baraga State Park, it pays to be a Michigan resident. When you renew your license plate, you can purchase an annual Recreation Pass for just $11.00. This gives you access to Michigan State Parks. You can also purchase the pass at one of the State Parks for $16.00. Non-residents can purchase a day pass for $9.00.
