Barren River Lake State Resort Park

Looking for a dog-friendly getaway in south central Kentucky? Then head to the Barren River Lake State Resort Park for a few days of R&R with your canine BFF! Located less than an hour southeast of Bowling Green, this gem of a park draws visitors with its beautiful surroundings, pawpular lodge, and myriad recreational activities. A furrific time awaits two- and four-legged guests alike!

Adventurous pups will be pleased to know that there are a few miles of trails to explore at Barren River Lake. One of the paths that you and Fido can tackle is the Connell Nature Trail, which features a soil and root surface. Follow this 1-mile loop past an old farm cistern, seasonal streams, deciduous trees, wildflowers, and a paw paw patch. Keep your eyes peeled for views of the beach and the wild critters that call the park home as well. 

For something a little different, try your hand at orienteering, which is a puptastic way to discover new parts of the park. Using a map and compass, you and your pooch will navigate the woods to complete a course. Barren River Lake contains two permanent orienteering courses, one for beginners and another for more experienced guests.

Other activities that you and Fido can enjoy at the park include boating, picnicking, and camping. If your pampered pooch is used to the finer things in life, they are welcome to stay with you in the 51-room Louie B. Nunn Lodge or in one of the 22 cottages for an additional fee. The lodge is equipped with full amenities and overlooks the 10,000-acre manmade lake, while some of the cottages provide a pawsome getaway deep in the woods. 

Be sure to always keep your pupper on a leash and clean up after them wherever you go in the park. Note that the restaurant is off-limits to canines except for service animals.
