Sawyer Dog Park, which is part of the 369 acre E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park, is a family friendly park located in Louisville, KY. This approximately 6 (six) acre facility is managed by both the Louisville Dog Run Association and the Kentucky Department of Parks and is open year-round for visiting.
Accessibility to the dog park is located on the northeast corner of the park's property, with the gate being located across the road from the main park entrance. Inside Sawyer Dog Park you will find three areas, measuring two acres each. One area is specifically for smaller dogs weighing under 30 pounds. Two additional areas are designated for all dogs to enjoy. All of the areas have drinking water available for your pups, benches for the owners, and there are poop bag stations located at the facility as well.
For the human visitors to the dog park, you also find two gazebos and plenty of shaded areas to relax while your pup enjoys himself. The dog park does require a key fob from your membership to the Louisville Dog Run Association to get inside. It should be noted, however, that you can contact the association if you are just visiting the area and inquire about guest privileges and access.
As with most dogs parks, your pup should be up to date on all of his or her vaccinations. Also, being mindful of others inside the park is always important when visiting any dog park. And when your pup answers nature's call, be sure you take advantage of the poop bags on site and help keep the park clean for others.
While some may find the need for a 'membership' a slight inconvenience, others have raved about the fact that the facility itself is well worth the cost. With its acres of grassy play areas and plentiful shade trees, Sawyer Dog Park has been referred to by some as 'paradise' among dog parks.
