When the weekend rolls around, pack up your pooch and head over to Brimley State Park. This lovely pawperty is nestled on the shores of Whitefish Bay at the far eastern end of Lake Superior. It’s the pawfect place to enjoy the great outdoors with your favorite four legged friend!
Since the park is right on Lake Superior, watersports are
very pupular. Bring your canoe, kayak, paddle board, or boat and explore the
bay. If your pooch joins you, it’s a good idea to strap a doggy life jacket on
them. Please note that dogs are not allowed to play on the beach. Bring your
fishing pole along and see if you can reel in a whopper. The lake is teeming
with whitefish, perch, northern pike, bass and walleye. Hopefully you and your
pupster will enjoy a tasty fish dinner!
If your doggo wants to stay the night at the park, settle
in at the campground. There are plenty of campsites to go around and both RVs and
tents can be accommodated. The park also has picnic facilities for day use. So
pack some sandwiches and stick around for lunch. Unfurtunatley, there aren’t
any official hiking trails. However, there is an abandoned rail corridor near
the park that is used for hiking in the summer and cross country skiing in the
winter. Remember to always have a clean up bag on hand so you can pick up after
your pooch.
When it comes to visiting Michigan state parks, it pays
to be a Michigan resident. At the time of their license plate renewals, Michigan
residents can purchase a Recreation Passport for $11.00. This pass gives you
entry to state parks, trails, historic sites, and more. Residents can also
purchase the pass at any state park for $16.00. Be sure to get one, your pup
will thank you!
No bones about it, your dog will love Brimley State Park!
