Description

Situated in the beautiful hills that Kentucky is famous for, the Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is a dream come true for photographers. Consisting of 856 acres along Buckhorn Lake, this pawtastic nature park is adjacent to the Redbird Purchase inside the Daniel Boone National Forest. And the best part? Dogs are welcome to explore this gorgeous area with you!

The state park has lots of outdoor activities for your and your furry bestie to check out. There's miniature golfing, a marina for boating with slips, ramps and even rental boats, and areas for fishing for muskie, bass and other fish. There's also tennis and volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, a playground for the little humans, picnic areas scattered throughout the park, and even a restaurant on site.

Though the Lodge swimming pool is exclusively for lodge and cottage guests, the beach is open to all! Check out the shore of Buckhorn Lake with your pup on this small park beach, which also offers a public bathhouse. Swimming is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and your dog is welcome to romp in the sand and water with you, as long as they stay on a leash.

If you need to get out those dog wiggles, check out the two furtastic nature trails with your adventure pup. The 1-mile Moonshine Trail is an easy self-guided interpretive trail, while the Leatherwood Trail at 0.5 miles is more difficult. Both can be picked up at the trailhead off of road 1833, between the cottages and the Lodge. No matter what you decide to do, be sure to have water to share with your pup on hand, as well as clean-up bags.

The Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park also features a Lodge house and cottages for you to extend your stay. All lodge rooms have patios and private balconies, and some are even dog-friendly! Relax by of the fireplace or hang out on the veranda to view the spectacular mountain scenery. This pet-friendly resort allows two dogs of any size for an additional fee of $30 per pet in the lodge rooms, and $50 per stay in the cottages. Though entrance to the park itself is free, overnight lodging and some amenities do come with their own fees.

Whether for an afternoon or weekend, you and your pup are sure to enjoy your time in the wilderness of the Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
