Located in the community of Near South, this pawsome recreational center was formerly known as Park 507. Coliseum Park takes its name from the historic sports arena of the same name which was built in the area in 1900. This woofderful playground offers so many furrific things to do you won't know where to begin! A truly dog-furiendly park, you may bring your fave pooch anywhere you so choose, but you must keep your best canine pal on a lead at all times.
There is one pawsitively awesome thing that sets Coliseum Park apart from other canine furiendly Chicago hotspots. It has a dog run! Though the play space itself is quite narrow and consists of only 0.65 acres of property, pooches of all shapes and sizes can join the pawrty completely off-lead! Yes, that's right; your doggo can roughhouse, frolic, and play to his heart's content without the need for a leash in the one on-premise enclosure at Coliseum Park. Drinking water is provided to help keep your pooch from getting parched, and there are also cleanup sacks available on the premises for pawblic use.
But the fun doesn't stop when Fido steps outside of the wooftastic off-leash play zone, he is welcome and wanted in the other areas of Coliseum Park though off-leash activity is not permitted here. You will find lots of lush grass spaces suitable for picnicking, games of fetch, or just doing some people watching. There is also a pawrific playground and some doggone stunning gardens to explore.
A permit is required to enter the dog play area. The cost is $5 per year. However, there is no fee required to simply enjoy the pawblic park sections of Coliseum Park. Due to its close proximity to the train, dogs with noise sensitivities might become frightened when the train passes through the area. Seating is also located directly beneath the train tracks.
