Overall, the dog beach is a gorgeous beach. It is kept this way through volunteer work as well as the care and respectfulness of the dog owners who go there. This dog beach has full water access and your canine is allowed to play in the water. Whether frolicking around the shore or paddling slightly in the water, anything is welcome. You are not required to be a member of MonDog to go to the dog beach.
The City of Chicago does require you to have DFA tags (which do cost $5). These tags help to ensure that everyone on the beach meets the required safety and vaccination requirements to keep everyone's canine safe. Parking nearby is relatively inexpensive and the beach itself (including the fenced area) is quite large. This means there is plenty of room for you to throw the frisbee or ball around without being too constrained to really run.
This area is fenced so you do not need to worry about your canine running off. They also provide many amenities to the public, such as free waste disposal bags for cleaning up after your dog as well as a dog wash area and watering station. This beach is kept very clean and garners quite the crowd. If you have any issues with unattended canines or the like, call 311 and officers will arrive shortly.
