East Frankfort Bark Park is part of the larger East Frankfort Park Complex. This beautiful park was completed in the fall of 1971 and has a storied local history. For over 40 years, they've hosted almost all of the town's local outdoor sporting events.
Three well-lit tennis courts ensure that you always have a place to play, even when the sun begins to set. If volleyball is more your speed, two sand courts on the northern end of the park are regularly maintained and free for public use. There are two minor league baseball diamonds available for summer rental.
Also, 13 different nature trails wind throughout the gigantic 47-acre park, several of which run through patches of seasonal wildflowers and all of which offer spectacular views. Installed in 1988, the full sized, 18-hole golf course offers many pro-level amenities. The course can also be booked for private parties with at least 90 days notice.
The Bark Park opened in 2007 as a component of the larger East Frankfort Park. The local organization, Operation Playground, spearheaded this project and with the generous donation of both land and public money, they were able to build the park completely tax-free. Several pieces of agility and play equipment exist for you and your dog to enjoy together.
There is a creek that runs through the wooded component of the park area, so make sure to steer clear if you don't want to be forced into giving your dog a bath post-playtime. In 2008, Dog Fancy acknowledged the East Frankfort Bark Park as one of the top dog parks in the nation.
The Sports, Forestry, and Administration building is located on-site, and is staffed part-time throughout the warmer months. More information can be found inside of the building in the main atrium. No water services exist in this park, so remember to bring water and a dish for your canine.
