Looking for a new place to take your pooch? Then it’s time for a trip to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. Don’t be fooled by the name, as this park isn’t an ode to Mark Twain’s infamous character. Rather, it’s named after a former Kentucky Judge. Regardless, your pooch is going to love sniffing around this urban park.
One thing is certain, this park is chock full of
puptastic amenities. Not only is there an archery range, BMX track, and an
airfield for model airplane flying, the park also features a community garden
and two playgrounds. And athletes come for the 14 soccer fields, softball fields
and tennis courts.
Your pup will be pleased to know that the park also has three
pawsome trails that they can follow. The one mile Fitness Trail is flat and has
10 exercise stations for burning some extra calories. Goose Creek Nature Trail
is a 1.25 mile loop that winds through a lovely wooded area and alongside Goose
Creek. A third trail takes you right to the park’s vernal pond.
The best thing about this park? It has an off leash area!
So, unclip the lead and let your doggo run around to their heart’s content. The
six acre designated doggy play area is located in the northeast corner of the
park. There are three separate sections. One is for petite pooches and the
other two are for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Your pup will be in heaven as
they romp around with new playmates. Please note that users must be members of
the Louisville Dog Run Association.
No matter where you go in the park, make sure you have
plenty of water for your pup. And don’t forget to pack some clean-up bags and
stoop and scoop when necessary. Your pooch will agree, an afternoon in E.P. Tom
Sawyer State Park is time well spent!Â
