Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is a 24-room rustic stone and wood lodge. The resort is serenely nestled on a high cliff overlooking the lake near Dawson Springs. The resort is open all year-round, but the rooms are only available on late afternoons. It is the ideal place for a family-friendly weekend or day-trip.
Located in southwestern Kentucky, this pet-friendly resort allows pooches of all sizes, but they must be on a leash, but they cannot be on the beach or other swimming areas. The highlight of the trip to the lake is the 56-acre lake that is surrounded by a 2.6-mile loop hiking trail.
Visitors can rent boats from the roster or even bring their own at the Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. However, no diesel engines are permitted on the lake. There is a public beach in the area where visitors can swim and go sunbathing. The 36-site campground is open from the first of April until the end of October.
The campground has laundry facilities, showers, restrooms, and utility hook-ups. Those who prefer a more luxurious stay can choose between the guest rooms and the rustic cottages in the central lodge. Lodge rooms have daily maid service while the rustic cabins have kitchens and cooking utensils provided.
This peaceful area boasts of various activities for visitors such as basketball, boating, birding, camping, canoeing, fishing, equine camping, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, miniature golf, swimming, tennis, and picnicking. There is also a large gift shop which offers a wide selection of souvenirs and handicrafts native to the state.
Those who enjoy watching birds can request for a table by the birdfeeders in the restaurant. Doing so will give them the opportunity to view these creatures while they dine. There is often many of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at the Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park during spring migration. Hiking the Clifty Creek Trail during summer gives visitors the chance to see a Louisiana Waterthrush bobbing along the stream.
