The property is home to private lakes, pristine old and new tree growth, rivers, and streams, all housed within 60,000 acres of varied terrain to explore.

The park permits dogs to join their owners on the premises and is one of the only state parks which allows dogs to enjoy its shoreline. Dogs must remain on a lead at all times. Drinking water is available via the on-site bathrooms. Poop bags are not provided. Owners should bring some with them from home to assist with the proper cleanup and disposal of canine waste.

This property is a public recreational space and camping facility and entrance to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is free of charge. This lovely state park offers many different types of accommodations including modern and primitive campsites, yurts, cabins, and a lodge by the name of Kaug Wudjoo. All accommodations are available by reservation only, and additional charges are applicable.

You need a recreation pass to enter the premises, but it is not known if there is an associated cost to obtain one. There are many great recreational activities for families to enjoy at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Among the most popular outdoor opportunities are cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, and hunting.

Also housed on the grounds of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park are a visitor's center, a pro shop where families can rent kayaks, canoes, and snow sports equipment, and a concession stand. This state park has also been designated an official Michigan Wildlife Viewing Area.

There are no official regulations visitors to this lovely park must observe. However, as is the case with most state parks, a city dog license and up to date vaccinations are highly recommended.
