The Rifle River Recreation Area is roughly 4,500-acres of wild beauty that is just calling your pup’s name. Located within the AuSable State Forest, this massive property was once a privately owned hunting and fishing retreat. Furtunatley, pets and their people are now welcome to explore this great piece of land.
Your doggo will be thrilled to know that this park has 14
miles of trails to discover. Lace up your hiking boots and head out into the furrific
wilderness. As your furry friend wanders through the thick forests, open
meadows, cedar swamps, and marshes, they can breathe in the fresh air and reconnect
with Mother Nature. In the early spring, the area is decked out in a gorgeous
array of wildflowers. Keep an eye open for little critters and feathered friends.
Waterfowl and the elegant trumpeter swan are known to nest in the area.
With 10 miles of streams and 10 lakes and ponds, Rifle River
Recreation Area is an angler’s paradise. Cast a line and see if you can bring
in a bass, northern pike, yellow perch, or bluegill. Shore fishing is great,
but exploring the waters by boat is even better. Since motorized boats are not
permitted on any of the lakes, you and your furry first mate will enjoy a
tranquil day on the water.
The park features a campground, so if your pup wants to stay the night bring some sleeping bags and set up camp. Picnic facilities and a playground are also available. Keep in mind dogs are not allowed in public swimming areas. Remember to clean up after your beloved pet, so be sure to carry plenty of clean-up bags, and water to share.
Your doggo is sure to fall in love with this park!
