River Front Dog Park

Opened in 2007, River Front Dog Park is a fenced, off-leash dog park which is a favorite of dog owners because it has separate areas for big dogs and small dogs, offering little pooches safety from being run over or being mauled by bigger dogs. 

A popular spot for locals, the park will soon be renamed in memory of Laykos, the loyal K-9 dog that served with the City of Madison Police Department and Capt. Rick Mundt until his untimely demise in 2013. The park has bleachers and picnic tables for people to get together for a meal or for a conversation while watching over their canine children. 

The park is not only a great place for dogs to get their daily exercise and socialization with other pets, but it is also a good place for dog owners to get to know their neighbors a little better. There is a fountain in the park for dogs to drink from. However, it is advised that dog owners also bring their own water supply because there are times when the water fountain is not on. It is better to be safe than to end up very thirsty. 

Watch your dog as he runs around the large area, enjoying freedom from his leash. Dog owners are urged to pick after their dogs as dog poop is one of the most common things park goers have complained about. Everyone needs to do their part to keep the park tidy so everyone can enjoy it.

Annual park passes can be purchased from the City Parks Department for a fee, $10 for residents and $20 for non-residents. The fees go toward the maintenance of the park and making sure that it is a safe and fun haven for dogs. Do keep in mind that Pit Bulls are not allowed in the park for safety reasons.
