Games like fetch or frisbee would be incredibly limited in this space. Several of the amenities you might expect at a local dog park are missing from this location. There is no running water here, and you will need to remember to bring your water and bowl so your canine can stay hydrated during your visit.
The lack of running water also means there are no restrooms for the human companions. The grounds here are grass and stay relatively well maintained. The grass is regularly cut, and there are no spots where the grass is worn down. This dog park can be quite hard to find. River Road Park has several entrances and is quite large, but this dog park is tucked away in a small and harder to find a section of this park.
The best way to find this would be to find the Jacob Vanderveer house, a historic landmark at this park. The dog park is located on the rear side of that house, look for the large fence directly behind it. Poop bags are available and regularly stocked. The garbage cans just inside the fenced section are routinely emptied as the park itself is well maintained.
The city initially stated the intention of expanding this park a great deal and the current size limitations being only temporary, however, this expansion has not yet come to pass, and there is no information regarding when they intend this expansion to occur. For now, the limited space of this park makes it a good place to socialize your canine, but not enough to wear out a highly energetic canine.
