Sam Nelkin County Dog Park

Samuel Nelkin County Dog Park is a beloved neighborhood dog facility in Wallington, New Jersey. Formerly named Wallington County Park, this family favorite recreational space was recently renamed to honor its benefactor, Samuel Nelkin, a United States patriot, local hero of historical significance, and philanthropist. Mr. Nelkin graciously willed the 17-acre property to the Bergen County Park Commission upon his death. 

Housed upon the grounds are two enclosures suitable for off-leash exercise and fun. Both of the play spaces are fully fenced to ensure dogs remain safe and secure during their fun time at the park. Since small, shy, and senior dogs often benefit from a space all of their own where a play style more suited to their needs reigns, one of the dog runs has been designed exclusively for their use. 

To ensure all dogs remain safe during their off-leash time, owners are required to provide active supervision and to keep a lead handy at all times. In accordance with state law, dogs must remain leashed when traveling to and from the enclosures and in all other public areas. Samuel Nelkin County Dog Park provides the ideal backdrop for a walk or run in a beautifully landscaped space. 

To encourage as many people and their pooches as possible to enjoy this public dog playground, access to the grounds is permitted free of charge. The dog runs are lined with wood chips, a surface which provides traction for pooches at play. Also housed within the play areas are picnic tables, benches, and plentiful shade provided by heavily forested areas of the park. 

Poop bags are provided to assist owners with the proper cleanup and disposal of all canine waste materials as mandated by New Jersey law. At this time, there is no water access at Samuel Nelkin County Dog Park. Owners are advised to bring bottled water and a drinking vessel with them from home. Bathrooms are installed on the property for public use. Samuel Nelkin County Park, a destination hotspot for the whole family, offers many great attractions. 

Among the on-site recreational opportunities are a pond, a playground, open fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and multi-purpose athletic fields. The on-site lake is an excellent spot for fishing. In season, Samuel Nelkin County Park is also home to a sledding hill and an ice skating rink. 

Samuel Nelkin County Dog Park has not placed any expectations upon visitors to their beautiful dog playground. To be certain your dog is protected against the threat of disease, up to date vaccinations are always a wise idea.
