The Silver Lake Recreation Area Dog Park is an off-leash dog park near Traverse City in Michigan. The dog park is an area in the Silver Lake Park which has been reserved just for four-legged visitors. Pups are also permitted in the rest of the eighty-acre recreational park which is popular for its walking trails, sports fields, and lake shorelines, but must be on a six-foot leash at all times.
This dog park offers larger canines a massive grass field to run around it and a slightly smaller when for their toy-sized brethren who weigh less than twenty-five pounds. Although small mutts who enjoy the company of the big guys are allowed to use the big dog run at their owner's discretion.Â
They should be properly supervised, and if a small dog does give a big one a hard time, as they can do on occasion, they need to be put straight back in their own run. Both enclosures have several trees for doggy diversion, but not really much of anything else.
This is a roomy dog park, but owners are still limited to taking just two pups at a time. Each dog must be healthy, vaccinated and licensed. Those that aren't are not allowed to be in the dog park. Any dog can have an off day; they are almost human after all. If a pup is in an anti-social mood and not playing the appropriate game with their fur buddies, there's only one thing to do, and that is leash them and take it out of the dog park.Â
A brisk walk down any of the park's trails or by the lakeside will act as a distraction and soon change its mood. The one thing which never changes is a pet parents responsibility toward scooping the poop. It has to be done whether it in the off-leash areas or out in the main park. Never leave a poop on the ground.
