The Westchase District in Houston has undergone substantial growth in the last decade, leading to many new apartments and condos. What has been missing, though, was a public park for neighborhood residents and their pups. That is, until October 2021 when Woodchase Park opened with its on-site dog park to much fanfare! The 1.7-acre host park features many fun opportunities on its extensive events calendar. But for doggos and their parents, the amoeba-shaped off-leash dog park is the best reason to go!
This small dog park’s unique design evokes both expansiveness and privacy. Grassy knolls and shade trees are pawfect for dogs to sniff and explore, while several large bean-shaped structures provide sitting areas for the pooches and their human buddies to catch their breath and watch the action.
A water fountain keeps everyone hydrated, and a doggy pool and sprinkler are refreshing spots for splashing and cooling off on those hot Texas days to prevent overheating. If you and your doggo prefer not to share the fountain with others, be sure to bring along bottled water and a bowl. Inside the double-gated security entrance to the fully fenced in doggy hot spot is a waste bag station with a trash receptacle so that pup parents can be good citizens and clean up after their canine kids. Human restrooms are located at the Pavilion just outside the dog park, and free parking is close by.
If your small or shy doggo is comfortable around larger, active pups, they’ll love this play area. Just remember there’s no separate small dog section. Fur babies are also welcome to explore the rest of the host park on leash. Dogs visiting the park should be licensed and wear an up-to-date rabies tag.
