Sometimes just a walk around the block with your fur baby isn't enough. If you're in Texas near Benbrook Lake, you're in the ideal place for heading out on some great equestrian trails in the area to give your pup the exercise they need. If you do go, keep your pup on a leash no longer than six feet. On the Benbrook Lake Equestrian trails, horse and rider have the right of way over hikers and dogs, so don't forget to stand aside and let them go by.
You'll find there are several trailheads for the equestrian trails. A popular starting point is from the Dutch Branch Park in Benbrook itself. There are also trailheads onto the fourteen miles of trails at the campsite in South Holiday Park which is by the lakeside and Westcreek Circle in Mustang Park. Both of those campsites are pet-friendly, so if you want to make a vacation break of it, you can do.
Your pup will love hiking the Benbrook Lake Trails with you. They're full of creeks to wade across, shady glades to wander through and lots of open grass fields. Most of the trail is well-trodden dirt with plenty of hoofprints, but that just gives your pup some different and exciting scents to sniff at.Â
The trails can get muddy and become slippery after it's rained, so check the weather if you're looking for solid terrain. Your fur baby might fancy a swim when you're passing by the lakeside, but sadly they're not permitted to enter the lake waters. Don't forget to take some drinking water for you and your pup. Too many horse's hooves have waded through the creeks for the water in them to be a sanitary option for your fur buddy. Have a fur-rific hike!
Horses can get easily spooked by barking dogs, so keep yours quiet when there are horses passing.
