This pleasant, fairly easy walk takes hikers and their pups through the foothills of the Phoenix Mountains, where they will cross several dry gullies surrounded by thick native Sonoran trees and bushes. Several animals can be seen here, most commonly coyotes and rabbits. At the beginning of the trail, you'll ascend the first gully and will be rewarded with furtastic views of Piestewa Peak, Stony Mountain, and the rest of the Phoenix Mountain peaks. The rest of the route is primarily flat, with mole hills popping up here and there, waiting to cause a turned ankle, so watch the trail ahead of you. The secluded washes provide a quiet, remote natural landscape and access to the trailhead is easy, making this a popular hike for humans and their fur-babies! The trail adheres to a Leave No Trace principle and relies on visitors to carry out whatever they carry in, along with any gifts from Fido, so be sure to bring clean up bags.
One of the pluses of the Dreamy Draw Nature Trail is that its loop intersects with at least 3 other looped trails which can be combined to create a miles-long hike that's almost totally customizable. So if the pooch leads you off onto another another trail, it won't be long before the two of you find yourselves back on your original track.Â
A short, pleasant and secluded hike awaits you and your pack so close to Phoenix, it'll only take minutes to get here! Come on! Dreamy Draw Nature Trail is waiting for you!
