Has your pooch been begging to spend some time in nature? Then pack some snacks and water, grab the leash, and make your way over to Rio Medina Trail. This gorgeous trail is actually located inside the Medina River Natural Area, a 500 acre patch of land that is just calling your dog’s name.
To get to the Rio Medina Trail, hop on the El Camino
Trail and head south. This paved trail is just .2 miles and is a pawfect way to
warm up your pal’s legs. Once you come to the junction, veer off onto the Rio
Medina Trail. After a short distance the trail forks. Since the last portion of
the Rio Medina Trail is a loop, you and your pup can go either way. The natural surface trail circles through
beautiful riparian habitat that will light up your pup’s doggy senses. The
southern section runs alongside the lovely Medina River. If your pooch enjoys
furrific waterfront scenery, they’ll be in absolute heaven as they trot along
this portion of the trail. Â
Since the Rio Medina Trail is only 1.5 miles long, athletic
dogs may need more exercise when they are finished. If your pooch still has
energy to burn, one option is to follow the Nogales Trail up to the Medina
River Greenway. This trail clocks in at seven miles, so your doggo has more
than enough room to roam.
Not only does the Medina River Natural Area feature other
pawsome trails, it also has picnic pavilions, campsites, plenty of parking, and
restrooms. Water is available, so make sure you and your pooch both stay well
hydrated. Keep the trail smelling fresh by bringing some clean up bags and
picking up after your pupster. No bones
about it, Rio Medina Trail will make your pup one happy hound!
