Having a dog who pulls is not fun. At best, you and your pup are unable to enjoy your walks. At worst, one or both of you can end up with injuries. Needless to say, leash manners are important, and a no-pull harness can help teach your furry friend to walk nicely on a leash.
When looking for a no-pull dog harness, you’ll want to go for something that’s designed with your dog’s safety and comfort in mind. A good no-pull harness should be made with high-quality materials, have padding in the right places, and not put pressure on your dog’s neck.
Ready to transform your walks? Here are six no-pull dog harnesses that can help put an end to the pulling!
Overview
PetSafe Easy Walk No Pull Dog Harness
Best for training
Created by a veterinary behaviorist in 2004, this simple training harness gets two paws up from countless dog parents and trainers.
The PetSafe Easy Walk No Pull Dog Harness features a patented martingale loop on the front that tightens and puts gradual pressure on your dog’s shoulders when they pull or lunge. Because the harness rests across the chest, it doesn’t put pressure on the throat.
It also has less coverage than other no-pull harnesses, allowing your pup to stay cool and comfortable during walks.
The PetSafe Easy Walk No Pull Dog Harness is available in small to large in many “puptastic” colorways. The black/silver variant comes in additional sizes, from petite to extra large.

Considerations & concerns
- Can cause chafing
- The chest strap is easy for some dogs to reach and chew through

What pet parents say about PetSafe Easy Walk No Pull Dog Harness
“On our second easy walk harness for our golden retriever, the smart system continues to work great. The first one is still in great condition but wanted to vainly change colors from black to tan for coat matching. Now we have a backup harness! It's easy to wash, hang dry, and readjust afterward. We do notice the main belly buckle is slightly more difficult to close/snap in place with the newer one and are hoping it will get easier with wear.”
“I've been on the lookout and hunt for a harness that was easy to put on, and I finally found one. This is a medium (NOT medium/large, just medium) and it's perfect for my 43 pound Wheaten Terrier. It's easy to guide him and it seems comfortable for him as we walk and run. I highly recommend this product.”
“I have tried 3 different harnesses and 3 different collars and 3 different leashes. Not to mention various combinations to try and get my dog to stop pulling. He pulled my mom down, my wife and daughter on walks in the past. This instantly made a difference and he is much more manageable on walks. Highly recommend.”

What pet parents say about Embark Adventure No Pull Dog Harness
“I love your harness. My little girl ‘Dakota’, had a big cyst underneath her armpit on her right front leg. I needed a harness that didn't rub on the cyst, your product is perfect! It was hard to find one that would help Dakota not add to her discomfort. My vet even took a picture of the harness to show other pet owners a different way to help their pets! Thank you.”
“Bought this for our 30 lb mix. She is high energy and I used this harness to make sure she is comfortable and safe on the leash. The cut of the harness doesn't cut in to her ‘armpit’ area. Other harnesses have rubbed her poorly in this area. This harness doesn't. I like the top loop and the front loop. I ride a bike with her and she responded well to both options. With the rear attachment, she went in to ‘pull mode’ and got a great work out pulling me. When attached in front of the harness, she responded well and didn't pull. So far, this harness has been great.”
“I have a hefty 92 pound 4 year old Golden Retriever who is a handful! Not only is this harness easy peasy to put on, it holds my wild thang in a commanding way. He seems comfortable in it and it has slowed him down. I adore the handle on the back! It provides excellent control and is very attractive on! He is styling his way to being a better boy!!!! Thanks!”

What pet parents say about Sporn Non-Pull Mesh Harness
“I purchased this item multiple times for my 60 pound pitbull mix that loved to pull. It worked great to eliminate pulling. The only challenge I’ve run into is it’s relatively easy for the dog to chew through. Shouldn’t be an issue if you remove it immediately after walks.”
“These are awesome! I purchased 2 of these for my English Mastiff Mixed who weighs 170#'s and the Bull Mastiff who weighs 130#'s. They hold my dogs nicely and they are easier to walk.”
“I bought the small harness for my very crazy Pug puppy. It fits well, light weight, very secure fit and no pulling!! I love it!! No snaps or buckles ..very east to slip on.”

- Has four adjustment points for a custom fit
- Very difficult to escape from
- Doesn’t cause choking or gagging
- Comes with a chewing replacement warranty
- Made in the USA
Considerations & concerns
- Some pet parents say the sizing is off
- May cause chafing and irritation in some dogs
- Leash handle is not padded
What pet parents say about 2 Hounds Design Freedom No-Pull Dog Harness
“I love this harness so much; I've used it with two dogs now, and while I've tried other harnesses, 2 Hounds Freedom No Pull is by far my favorite. The options of a front or top harness and a leash designed to clip on to either spot... OR BOTH... gives me options depending on where we are and how much control I need over my (enthusiastic) pup. I use both clips on the city streets and then once we're in the park I switch to one clip so my dog can have a longer leash.”
“This harness was recommended by our new trainer. Since many other recommendations were not winners, we [were] very skeptical. Immediately we were pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth it.”
“Used these to walk my huskies. I have tried everything to help with pulling. My older husky (8) who is a notorious puller was walking next to me. My younger husky (3) was pulling me like no tomorrow. She hasn’t had a lot of walking training because she is [a] rescue but we have tried a few things. This one seems like it might work best. The harness is secure under their front legs with a velvet strap and has a few hooks to walk the leash on.”

Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness

Though primarily marketed for car use, this harness also doubles to curb pulling behavior.
Based on harnesses used by rock climbers and linemen, the Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness has been crash tested for dogs up to 75 pounds. It features all-steel nesting buckles, a padded chest plate, and leash attachments on the front and back.
The front attachment is great for no-pull training, making this versatile harness suitable for use in and out of the car. The Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness comes in extra small to extra large in four “furbulous” colors.
Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness
Why Wag! loves Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness
- Crash test certified
- Comfortable enough for extended wear
- Has five adjustment points for a customizable fit
- Includes a seat belt tether and compatible with any seat belt system
- Backed by a lifetime warranty
Considerations & concerns
- Some pet parents say the sizing is off
- Buckles may take some time to figure out
- Some pet parents found the harness too heavy and bulky
What pet parents say about Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Dog Car Harness
“I love these harnesses! I didn't want a plastic clip because they always seem cheap and break eventually. It took a couple times before I figured out how easy it is to clasp the metal clips into place. I've also recommended this harness to my coworker, which she has purchased and was very pleased with as well for her labradoodle. My 2 Rottweilers don't seem to mind their harnesses, when I bring them out, they get excited because it usually means they're going somewhere.”
“Was worried about this after reading some other reviews, but it isn't that hard to use. It is an 'over the head' harness and I wasn't sure if Ruby would be ok with that. But we were able to put it on and get it adjusted. We are only using this as a car harness, I'm not sure she would be comfortable going on walks with it. Hopefully we don't need to find out it's safety rating in real life!”
“Love that this harness has metal parts rather than plastic. All around very sturdy. Good looking. Not the easiest to put on a wiggly dog as the metal parts don't click together the way plastic ones will. But they much sturdier and I have no doubt they will last longer. My only complaint is that the snap which holds the rear strap in place has a tendency to unsnap causing the harness to slide around to the side. Doesn't affect it's usability. Likely due to the fact that my dog is a puller (that's why I use the front clip). The carabiner and strap for the car is easy to use, gives him enough leeway to move around a bit but gives me peace of mind. Also helps in that he can't jump out of the car as soon the door is opened. All in all a quality item just takes a bit of patience and getting used to.”

Ruffwear Front Range No Pull Dog Harness
Best for extended wear
The Ruffwear Front Range No Pull Dog Harness is a lightweight and padded harness that can be worn all day, every day. Designed for comfortable extended wear, it’s suitable for both short strolls and long hikes.
This no-pull harness features two leash attachment points: an aluminum V-ring on the back for everyday walks, and reinforced webbing on the chest to discourage pulling along with another loop for attaching a leash.
It also has an ID pocket to keep dog tags from jangling and reflective trim to make your pooch easy to spot in low-light conditions. The Ruffwear Front Range No Pull Dog Harness is available in XXS to large/extra large in a variety of colors.
Ruffwear No Pull Dog Harness
Why Wag! loves Ruffwear Front Range No Pull Dog Harness
- Comfy foam-padded design
- Easy to put on
- Durable and well-made
- Has four adjustment points for an optimal fit
- Hard to escape from, according to some pet parents
Considerations & concerns
- On the pricey side
- Some pet parents say it doesn’t fit their dog well
- Some pet parents say the front loop frays easily
What pet parents say about Ruffwear Front Range No Pull Dog Harness
“Bought this hoping my dog would be comfortable and I would be able to handle her. She is half Jack Russel and very hyper. She gets out of every collar, and even climbs the fence, so I have to take her out on a leash. This harness is perfect. It seems to be comfortable, and no matter how hard she pulls, it is strong enough to hold her. She is learning slowly how to walk with me, and without this harness, I would have had a much harder time.”
“It's expensive, but it's worth it. Very adjustable to your dog. The fasteners are sturdy, the harness is slightly padded so I think it's comfortable. The adjustments stay put - I've had other harnesses where the fasteners slide and the straps get bigger and the dog could escape.
I throw it in the wash and it comes out great. Lasts a long time without looking shabby. Has front and top loops for the leash (I like [the] front, my husband uses the top.)”
“This is the 4th dog I’ve owned that has had a [Ruffwear] harness. 2 of my dogs have passed away but their harnesses were still in great shape even after many years of use. I highly recommend. Worth the money.”
