Overview

Soulistic produces grain-free, high-moisture, wet cat food made with premium ingredients. Brought to you by the same company as Weruva, Soulistic is similar in its quality and content.

We rate Soulistic cat food 4.5 out of 5 paws up. It's high in protein and contains little to no filler ingredients. Soulistic misses out on top marks as some foods are high in fat and carbs, and most of its recipes include tuna.

Soulistic is an all-round excellent cat food — but is it right for your cat? Keep scrolling for our full Soulistic cat food review, where we examine different product lines, FAQs, recalls, and more!

Soulistic cat food product ranges and flavors

Soulistic only manufactures wet cat foods, available in a range of consistencies from chunks in gravy to pâtés to pumpkin soups.

All Soulistic cat foods are "complete and balanced," meeting the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) nutrient profile guidelines for maintenance (adults) or growth (kittens). Soulistic Pumpkin Purée is for supplemental feeding only.

Soulistic Serene Selections Variety Pack

Soulistic Originals wet cat food

Soulistic Originals is Soulistic's flagship wet cat foods range, consisting of 16 varieties available in cans and/or pouches. While Soulistic offers a decent variety of flavors, it's worth noting most include tuna, which isn't ideal for cats with fish allergies.

Overall, Soulistic Originals recipes are of premium quality. Each recipe lists broth or a cut of real meat as the top ingredient and is only made with a handful of ingredients aside from supplemental vitamins and minerals.

Soulistic Originals recipes come in three consistencies: In Gravy, Gelée, and In Pumpkin Sauce.

The main difference between In Gravy and Gelée recipes are thickeners and stabilizers. Gelée recipes use natural stabilizers like locust bean gum, carrageenan, and guar gum, while In Gravy recipes use tapioca starch and xanthan gum. As the name suggests, In Pumpkin Sauce contains pumpkin as a primary ingredient, a fiber source high in vitamins A, C, and K.

Soulistic Original wet cat foods contain above-average protein (59.2% as dry matter) and average fat (12.9% as dry matter) on average compared to your standard wet cat foods.

Soulistic Originals wet cat food flavors:

  • Tuna & Shrimp Dinner in Gelée
  • Tuna & Crab Surimi Dinner In Gelée
  • Salmon & Tuna Dinner In Gravy
  • Tuna Whole Meat Dinner In Gravy
  • Tilapia & Tuna Dinner In Gravy
  • Chicken Dinner In Gravy (pouch/can)

Soulistic Pâté Duck & Tuna in Hydrating Purée

Soulistic Pâté wet cat food

Soulistic Pâtés are similar to its Originals range — each recipe consists of broth, real cuts of meat, natural thickeners and stabilizers, and nutritional supplements.

Soulistic Pâtés are excellent quality wet cat foods and a good alternative to their Originals line if your fussy feline prefers their meals to have a smooth consistency.

One of the main differences is that Soulistic Pâtés contains dried egg, which serves as a secondary protein source and is rich in omega fatty acids. Plus, Soulistic Pâtés have slightly higher moisture levels to help prevent dehydration and UTIs.

It's worth pointing out that Soulistic Pâtés have wildly different protein-to-fat ratios.

Tuna and Beef Dinner Pâté is the highest in protein (68.7% as dry matter) and among the lowest in fat (19.8% as dry matter), while the Chicken Dinner Pâté recipe has the highest fat (40% as dry matter) but lowest protein (47.7% as dry matter). With 40% fat, Soulistic Chicken Dinner Pâté isn't the best choice for obese cats.

Soulistic Pâté wet cat foods contain above-average protein (55.8% as dry matter) and average fat (14.8% as dry matter) on average compared to your standard wet cat food.

Soulistic Pâté wet cat food flavors:

  • Chicken
  • Chicken & Turkey
  • Chicken & Tuna
  • Duck & Tuna
  • Tuna & Salmon
  • Tuna & Beef
  • Chicken & Lamb (pouch)
  • Chicken & Pumpkin (pouch)
  • Chicken & Salmon (pouch)
  • Duck & Tuna (pouch)

Soulistic Moist & Tender Mystic Menu Variety Pack

Soulistic Moist & Tender wet cat food

Like Soulistic Pâté, Moist & Tender recipes have elevated moisture levels to keep cats healthy and hydrated. Overall, they're pretty similar to Soulistic Originals In Gravy recipes, but with extra gravy.

Broth or real meat is the top ingredient in each recipe, followed by thickeners like tapioca starch. One of the main downsides to this range is the flavors. They all contain tuna despite each recipe appearing to include a single animal protein source. As a result, they're not ideal for sensitive stomachs.

Like the rest of Soulistic's offerings, we highly recommend its Moist & Tender — as long as your feline friend can stomach tuna.

Soulistic Moist & Tender wet cat food contains above-average protein (58.7% as dry matter) and above-average fat (20.6% fat as dry matter) compared to your standard wet cat food.

Soulistic Moist & Tender wet cat food flavors:

  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Duck
  • Beef
  • Lamb
  • Salmon
  • Tuna & Chicken (pouch)
  • Tuna & Turkey (pouch)
  • Tuna & Duck (pouch)
  • Tuna & Beef (pouch)
  • Tuna & Lamb (pouch)
  • Tuna & Salmon (pouch)
  • Beef & Chicken (pouch)
  • Chicken & Tuna (pouch)
  • Chicken, Turkey, & Salmon (pouch)
  • Duck & Salmon (pouch)

Soulistic Kitten Chicken & Pumpkin in Gravy

Soulistic Kitten wet food

Soulistic Kitten recipe comes in shredded, minced, or as pâté to please your pint-sized purring pals' discerning palate. The basic ingredients in each recipe are the same as Soulistic's other foods: broth, real cuts of meat, natural thickeners, and natural flavors.

Every recipe includes dried egg to boost protein levels and provide an additional fatty acid source. They're also higher in moisture as kittens are more prone to dehydration than adult felines.

Soulistic Kitten cat foods contain above-average protein (62.1% protein as dry matter) and above-average fat (29.2% fat as dry matter) to fuel your kitten's growth and development.

Soulistic Kitten wet food flavors:

  • Chicken in Au Jus
  • Chicken Breast in Hydrating Purée
  • Tuna & Salmon in Hydrating Purée
  • Chicken & Pumpkin in Gravy
  • Chicken & Tuna in Gravy (pouch)

Soulistic Pumpkin Purée Food Topper

Soulistic Pumpkin Purée is a supplemental meal topper designed to add moisture and flavor to your fur-baby's mealtimes. This recipe is super easy on your cat's stomach, with just two ingredients: pumpkin and water.

It contains 50% fiber as dry matter to aid digestion. We highly recommend this meal topper if you're looking for something to soothe your cat's digestive tract.

Why Wag! likes Soulistic cat food

Here are a few reasons why we highly rate Soulistic cat food!

High in protein

One of the standout features of Soulistic cat foods is its protein levels.

Most of Soulistic's cat foods contain between 50% and 65% protein as dry matter, which is high for cat food. Protein is a cat's main energy source, with amino acids in animal protein supporting essential bodily functions from immunity to heart function.

No filler ingredients

Soulistic cat foods are made from only a handful of main ingredients—primarily broth, meat, and thickeners. You won't find any filler, like corn, grains, or soy, in these recipes! Plus, Soulistic doesn't use any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

BRC-certified manufacturing

Soulistic is certified by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the global benchmark for food manufacturing safety, distribution, and packaging. All of Soulistic's wild-caught tuna is dolphin and sea turtle-safe. Additionally, its recipes are non-GMO, BPA-free, grain-free, and gluten-free.

As a result, you can feed your cat Soulistic cat food, knowing it goes easy on the environment and is made with utmost care and attention.

Concerns & considerations

Think Soulistic is a good choice for your cat? Here are a few things to consider before you purchase Soulistic for your purring pal.

Pricing

Soulistic is pretty reasonably priced considering its ingredient quality, but its low-calorie content means you'll have to feed your cat more food per day than usual. ASoulistic Serene Selections Variety Pack consisting of 12 x 3 oz. cans costs $22.98 at the time of writing.

For example, a 3 oz. can of Originals Shrimp & Tuna in Gelée cat food only contains 60 calories. Soulistic's directions state you should feed your cat 1 oz. of food per lb of body weight. The average cat weighs around 9 lbs, so you'll need to feed your cat at least 3 cans of Soulistic daily.

Controversial ingredients

While Soulistic is generally an excellent quality cat food brand, a couple of its ingredients are potentially controversial.

Natural thickeners guar gum and carrageenan are safe for use in cat foods and won't cause an adverse reaction in most felines. However, there's anecdotal evidence that carrageenan and guar gum can cause gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea and vomiting in some cats.

Varying carb contents

It's worth mentioning carb levels in Soulistic cat food differ significantly anywhere from 3% to 33%. Carbs should be a minor energy source for cats — ideally, their diet should consist of between 10% and 15% carbs.

Excess carbs can contribute to health concerns like obesity and diabetes mellitus. Read each food's label carefully to ensure you pick a recipe that won't make your cat pile on the pounds.

What pet parents say about Soulistic cat food

"My 12 year old female has allergies and digestive problems so I can only feed her canned food or she will vomit. She loves this food. Some cans are meatier than others but she does like the variety. I have tried just about every kind of wet food available and soulistic has been consistent with quality. It smells and looks appetizing and she can keep it down. Her coat is beautiful and silky soft and she no longer licks herself raw. I highly recommend this food"
