Overview
ButcherBox for Pets is a new face in the dog food and treat world, launching their first products in 2022. The company is owned by ButcherBox, a meat subscription service for people that delivers humanely raised meat and wild-caught fish from trusted farmers directly to your front door.
ButcherBox applies the philosophy to its pet care company as it does to its meat subscription service — providing high-quality products sourced from trusted U.S. farmers to your fur-baby. While ButcherBox for Pets currently only makes treats, it'll launch a line of premium dog foods in February 2024.

ButcherBox For Pets Dog Treats
ButcherBox For Pets has two main dog food treat varieties. Both varieties list a quality cut of meat and organic sweet potato as the top ingredients. Each recipe uses either organic chicken or grass-fed beef.
Both recipes contain eight or fewer ingredients. Other common ingredients like molasses, coconut glycerin, and dried cultured skim milk are safe for dogs and used to add flavor or as preservatives.
ButcherBox For Pets offers one supplementary treat variety for hip and joint support. It's similar in contents to the Grass-Fed Beef & Sweet Potato Jerky Bites but contains turmeric and honey which have anti-inflammatory properties.
ButcherBox For Pets treats are available in three varieties:
- Organic Chicken & Sweet Potato Jerky Bites
- Grass-Fed Beef & Sweet Potato Jerky Bites
- Hip & Joint Support Beef Treats

Why Wag! likes ButcherBox For Pets
Here are a few reasons why Wag! highly rates ButcherBox For Pets!
A quality cut of meat as the top ingredient
All ButcherBox For Pets recipes list a quality cut of muscle meat as the main protein source. Even ButcherBox For Pet's upcoming dog food lists organic chicken as the top ingredient. High-quality cuts of meat are packed full of nutrients and easier on your dog's digestive system.
Only uses humanely-sourced animal protein
ButcherBox, in its meat subscription service and dog food products, is committed to humanely treating animals. ButcherBox supports and partners with local farmers across the contiguous 48 states.
It's transparent about where it sources its meat. For example, its grass-fed beef is primarily from Australia. ButcherBox For Pet's chicken is USDA-certified organic and is never given antibiotics or hormones to enhance growth. Its seafood is wild-caught and sustainably harvested.
ButcherBox For Pets treats are great quality
ButcherBox For Pets treats are a great way to pamper your pup. Each variety contains limited ingredients and is made with a named cut of meat and organic sweet potato. They're slowly smoked to preserve nutrients and enhance flavor.
Concerns & considerations
Here are a few things to bear in mind before purchasing ButcherBox for your pup!
On the pricey side
While pricing isn't yet available for ButcherBox For Pets' dog food range, its treats are on the pricey side compared to other dog treats. ButcherBox For Pet's treats are more expensive due to the quality of ingredients used.
For example, ButcherBox For Pets' Organic Chicken & Sweet Potato Jerky Bites costs $14.99 for an eight-ounce bag as a once-off purchase at the time of writing. In comparison, a 25-ounce tub of Milk-Bone Soft & Chewy Beef & Filet Mignon Dog Treats costs $14.48 on Chewy.
Limited meat protein varieties
ButcherBox For Pets's products are made with either beef or chicken, which could be an issue for dogs with specific meat protein allergies. ButcherBox's upcoming dry dog food range is only available in chicken flavor: however, this may change after launch.
What pet parents say about ButcherBox For Pets

"My dog absolutely loves these treats!!! They are fresh and you can pronounce every ingredient. Will definitely buy them again."
