Overview

ButcherBox for Pets is a new face in the dog food and treat world, launching their first products in 2022. The company is owned by ButcherBox, a meat subscription service for people that delivers humanely raised meat and wild-caught fish from trusted farmers directly to your front door.
ButcherBox applies the philosophy to its pet care company as it does to its meat subscription service — providing high-quality products sourced from trusted U.S. farmers to your canine companion.
Wag! gives ButcherBox For Pets a near-perfect rating thanks to its use of high-quality ingredients and humanely sourced animal protein. It misses out on top marks because of its pricing and limited food varieties.

ButcherBox For Pets Dog Food

ButcherBox Premium Nutrition Dog Food
ButcherBox recently launched its line of dog food, with two dry recipes available: one for adult dogs and one for puppies. Both recipes are free from artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.
ButcherBox Premium Nutrition Adult Dog Food is a high-quality grain-inclusive kibble, with organic chicken as the top ingredient, followed by quinoa, millet, pearled barley, and chicken meal.
Quinoa is especially nutritious for dogs as a source of fiberfatty acids, and iron. Other beneficial ingredients include flaxseed, fish oil, and sweet potato. While we prefer to see fewer grains in the top five ingredients, it's an excellent dry dog food thanks to its use of real chicken as the primary animal protein—something you don't often see in dry dog foods.
ButcherBox Premium Nutrition Puppy Food is slightly different—it's grain-free, with organic turkey topping the ingredients list. Other top ingredients include dried sweet potatoes, dried peas, turkey meal, and tapioca starch. Peas are high in antioxidants and protein, while sweet potatoes are a great source of fiber.
ButcherBox Premium Nutrition Adult Dog Food contains above-average protein (27.2% as dry matter) and average fat (11.3% as dry matter) compared to typical kibble.

ButcherBox For Pets Dog Treats and Toppers

ButcherBox For Pets Dog Treats and Toppers
ButcherBox For Pets has three main dog treat varieties and one food topper.
All Jerky Bites varieties list a quality cut of meat and organic sweet potato as the top ingredients. Each recipe uses either organic chicken or grass-fed beef. Both recipes contain eight or fewer ingredients. Other common ingredients like molasses, coconut glycerin, and dried cultured skim milk are safe for dogs and used to add flavor or as preservatives.
ButcherBox For Pets offers three supplementary treat varieties, including calming chews to ease anxiety. Hip & Joint and Skin & Coat recipes have ingredients similar to those in its Jerky Bites range but with added natural ingredients that support specific health needs. For example, Hip & Joint Support Beef Treats include turmeric and honey, which have anti-inflammatory properties.
ButcherBox For Pets Freeze-Dried Treats are another superb snack for your canine companion—Freeze-Dried Pumpkin Spice Meatballs are made with only a handful of ingredients, including beef, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, and ginger. Single Ingredient Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites consist of only beef liver.
