Ahupua'a
Kaneohe, Hawaii is a census-designated part of Honolulu that doesn’t offer a wide variety of dog-friendly attractions and restaurants -- but surrounding areas, like Ahupua’a in Kaliua, do! This neighborhood is about an 11-minute drive from Kaneohe’s center and is the home of the gorgeous Kailua Beach Park. Here, your leashed dog with tags is welcome to explore the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. There are plenty of pet-friendly hotels in the area and several restaurants that invite you and your dog to dine together, including the popular Island Snow serving up some of the area’s favorite flavors of shave ice to cool off your paws!

About 6 miles from Kaneohe is another great neighborhood for you and your pup in Kailua. Windward is an excellent place for a variety of dog-friendly restaurants and hotels, and it sits right on the amazing blue waters of Kailua Bay. Mahaloha Burger is one of the area’s most popular places for man and beast! The outdoor patio tables are dog-friendly, and you and your pooch are sure to drool over the pawsome burger options. Bella Bistro, Timmy T’s Gourmet Grinders, and Big City Diner also offer bark-friendly seating! You can even bring your pup to the outdoor seating at Whole Foods Market if he’s on his leash.

About 14 miles from Kaneohe is Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii. Just over 30 minutes from Kaneohe is Hawaii Kai, a beautiful neighborhood in Honolulu. This area has its own doggie park, Hawaii Kai Dog Park, with separate areas for small and large dogs, lots of grass, and some shaded areas to get out of the sun. This neighborhood sits right on the water and next to Maunalua Bay Beach Park, an incredible outdoor retreat where you and your leashed pup can spend the day, soak in the sun, and take a dip in the beautiful waters. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, check out Roy’s Hawaii Kai with local seafood dishes that are sure to please the palate – you can even bring your pup inside!
