Trout Park Boulevard
Trout Park Boulevard is a great area in Elgin to bring your four-legged best friend. Along the winding path of the Fox River Trail, budding vegetation flourishes, gentle breezes pass softly through the tree leaves, and a roaring river is crafted into the scenery. The Fox River Trail is in one of the most dog-friendly environments in Elgin. Leashed dogs are welcome to walk alongside you as you both master the trail which connects Algonquin to Aurora. You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy this trail -- you just need to love both the great outdoors and the company of the happy face beside you.

Glen Ellyn
Although Glen Ellyn is 38 minutes from Elgin, the bubbly dog-friendly atmosphere is well worth the commute. The dog park and hiking trail of Glen Ellyn are definite treats for your pup and will surely leave him beggin’ to come back! Your dog can frolic in the freshly cut grass with other friendly dogs, as you sit back and bask in the fun with a good book or a packed lunch. The park is big enough for some great games of fetch and frisbee, so bring a ball for Fido. Glen Ellyn also has a hiking trail for the nature lover who wishes to explore with their leashed fur baby. Don't forget to bring some water along!

Lombard
Lombard, Illinois is a 35 minute commute from Elgin, but is one of the most dog-friendly cities nearby. With two hiking trails available for dog use, traveling to Lombard is the perfect excuse to step away from the hustle of metropolitan life and paws for thought along the local trails. Your dog is welcome to join your reflective journey as long as they remain on leash. But that’s okay, because by your side is your dog’s favorite place to be! The Great Western Trail and the Illinois Prairie Path are two beautiful natural getaways – especially in the early fall when the leaves begin to change color. Regardless of the season, however, your dog’s eyes will sparkle with excitement as soon as you arrive in Lombard.

Dundee is a quick 5 minute drive from Elgin and is equipped with a hiking trail and a park. However, these are not like ordinary parks and trails, because the trails are also enclosed in the park. So, if you are interested in hiking with your dog, but still want Fido to have the off-leash experience, feel free to let him or her run off-leash in Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve. The park includes 5 acres of grassy spaces, and the trails have beautiful wooded canopies crafted above the pathways. Dundee is a highly rated city for dog-friendly atmospheres and accommodations. So, pack up the ol’ hiking shoes and tennis balls, and head to Dundee with your pup.
Geneva
A 25 minute commute from Elgin, Geneva hosts a welcoming atmosphere to all dogs and their owners.
