This Algonquin neighborhood is home to a scenic park where you can take your pup for on-leash walks: Riverfront Park. This 1.5-acre park has a paved path that goes along the Fox River. There are plenty of benches where you can sit and enjoy the view of the water, and there’s a lovely gazebo you can relax in with your dog. Bring water and doggy bags with you, and enjoy strolling in this park. If you’re hungry after the park, head over to Port Edward. This restaurant welcomes dogs on their riverfront patio, and they specialize in seafood, steak, sushi, and salads.

If you’re looking for another good place to take your dog for an on-leash walk, check out Algonquin Lakes Park. This 35-acre park has walking paths that go around scenic lakes and past beautiful meadows. These paths are paved and mostly flat, making them easy for your dog to walk on. If you need a break from the sun, you and your dog can sit under the park’s gazebo. Bring doggy bags for your pup, and have a great time exploring this park! After the park, continue your fun day out with lunch at Algonquin Sub Shop. Grab one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy sandwiches, salads, soup, and more.

Sleepy Hollow Road
If you and your dog love going for off-leash hikes, Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve is perfect for you. This 160-acre preserve is just six miles from Algonquin, and dogs are allowed to be off-leash throughout the whole preserve. While you’re here, you and your dog can explore the preserve’s numerous unpaved hiking trails. These trails will take you through the forest and past grassy areas. There’s also a picnic pavilion where you can have lunch with your dog. Bring plenty of doggy waste bags and your pup’s water bowl with you, and have a great time hiking here.

East End Avenue
This Crystal Lake neighborhood is home to a pawesome off-leash area, Hound Town Dog Park. Located just seven miles from Algonquin, this dog park has one large, fenced-in area for dogs to play in. This area features a huge field with tons of space for dogs to run around in, and water is available. To use this dog park, you’ll have to get an annual permit from the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office. Once you do that, you’ll be free to use the dog park anytime you’d like! If you’re feeling hungry after the dog park, check out Country Donuts. Sit at their one dog-friendly outdoor table, and enjoy freshly baked donuts, bagels, and cookies.

If you’re searching for another pawesome off-leash park, check out Keppler Park. Located 23 miles from Algonquin, this park has two off-leash areas, Wiggly Field and Southpaw Park. Wiggly Field is open to dogs of all sizes, and it has lots of fun agility equipment for your pup to play on. Southpaw Park is exclusively for small dogs who weigh 20 pounds or less. Both areas are fenced in, keeping your dog safe and secure while they play, and water is available for your dog in both areas. Your dog is sure to love playing in these two fun-filled dog parks!
