Woodstock Illinois is a small city, but don’t let that fool you! It provides plenty of shopping, eating, recreation, entertainment and outdoor areas for you and your pup to get some fresh air. Bull Valley Dog Park is a 7-acre off-leash, fenced-in dog park that offers planned activities throughout the year! Public House of Woodstock-Paws on the Patio is a fundraising event that donates 10% of all purchases to the Animal House Shelter. Bark-a-Paw-Looza is a free event that provides music, service providers, raffle prizes and face painting, with all proceeds and donations being given to the Rescued Dog Resource Center.

McCollum Lake

McCollum Lake

This beautiful residential neighborhood is situated on Lake McCollum and is conveniently located between Highway 31 and Highway 120. McBark Dog Park is 4 acres of open space for off leash dog fun! Be aware, you’ll need to purchase a key card from the city to access the dog park. Prairie Trail is one of many rail trails that have been repurposed from old railroads and corridors, making them an excellent way to get exercise with your four-legged companion. There is a local PetSmart and PETCO where you can pick up dog food, treats, toys and more.

Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake is a gorgeous city just 17 minutes away from Woodstock that offers easy access to Crystal Lake, Three Oaks Recreation Area, and Crystal Lake Country Club! Hound Town Dog Park allows dogs to romp and play off-leash in a fenced, 3-acre area! Just remember to bring your own water. You can also access the Prairie Trail from Crystal Lake, so lace up your best walking shoes and hit the road! Banfield Pet Hospital is conveniently located inside the PetSmart and offers medical care for a variety of pets. If you’re wanting to grab a bite to eat and want to bring Fido, try That’s Amore Pizza, or Crystal Lake Brewing!

Wonder Lake

Wonder Lake

This quaint yet spacious locale offers locals the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with their pups! Glacial Park is a beautiful forest preserve with rolling hills, lots of prairie land, and even a river that encompasses over 3,400 acres! Hike to the top of the high hills to view a beautiful prairie below. You’ll definitely want to bring a camera for this one. Just make sure to keep Fido on a leash at all times. In case you didn’t hit the Prairie Trail in Crystal Lake or McCollum Lake, you can access it here, too. Don’t forget to bring some water and a couple of snacks for yourself and Fido -- you two are sure to be doggone tired after this adventure!
McHenry

McHenry

The city of McHenry is just 20 minutes from Woodstock and offers gorgeous views of the Fox River. You’ll also have access to several parks, country clubs, and a hospital. Moraine Hills State Park offers bike trails, boating, cross country skiing, fishing, hunting, and hiking on their 2,200 acres! Dogs are allowed on leash and must be picked up after. Creekside, Indian Ridge, Wheeler, Knox, and Cold Springs Park all allow leashed pups to accompany their humans and enjoy the amenities they have to offer. The hardest part about coming to McHenry will be deciding what to do first!
