Solon Mills

Solon Mills is located near the Illinois/Wisconsin border and is easily accessible via Highway 12 and Solon Road. The nearby Glacial Park stretches 3,400 acres and houses a 400-acre nature preserve, endangered plants and animals, horseback riding trails, and hiking trails; leashed dogs that are picked up after are invited to enjoy the hiking paths and gorgeous views! The Prairie Trail also runs through Glacial Park. However, this particular trail was formerly a railroad corridor many years ago that has since been reutilized into a fun exercise path. If you’re hungry and Fido is tagging along, New China Taste has an outdoor patio area that allows doggies.

McCullom Lake

This family-friendly neighborhood of Illinois has plenty of shopping and dining that are easily accessible via Richmond Road. McBark Dog Park is also located of Richmond Road where you can bring your dog to socialize and exercise in a large but secure 4-acre space! The park also provides shade and water to keep your pooch cool and hydrated while they play. Another fun outing you can have with Fido is the local Prairie Trail that used to be a railroad track! If you are needing to stock up on supplies for your pooch, there is also a local PetSmart and PETCO that provides all the treats, toys and food they will need.

Woodstock

Just 23 minutes southwest of Solon Mills, the fun residential community of Woodstock offers plenty of dining, shopping and access to local parks. Bull Valley Dog Park is a designated local space for dog owners to bring their pups for some off-leash fun. This 7- acre dog park also provides a shade tree and waste bins. Paws on the Patio is a fun local event that takes place at Public House of Woodstock where a percentage of your bill goes to local animal organizations. Woodstock also hosts the annual Bark-a-Paw-Looza event where you can bring your pooch to come mingle, and participate in their raffles, demonstrations and meet local vendors. All proceeds benefit the Rescued Dog Resource Center.

Lake Villa

Lake Villa is a scenic locality, housing Deep Lake, Crooked Lake, Cedar Lake, Sand Lake, Hastings Lake, and Waterford Lake, and situated only 13 miles east of Solon Mills. Duck Farm Dog Park is a 40-acre, fenced, off-leash space located on the grounds of the Duck Farm Forest Preserve that also includes open fields, wetlands, drinking fountains and waste stations. The community of Lake Villa also hosts the annual A Day With the Dogs event that is a local fundraiser that benefits local animal shelters and rescues. The Animal Hospital of Lake Villa is also charitable; they host an open house event with games and prize, with all donations and proceeds going towards the hospital’s on-site animal rescue.

Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake is a hub for dog-friendly establishments and activities, and is just a short 16-mile drive from Solon Mills. Hound Town Dog Park is a large, gated, 3-acre space for pups to exercise, play, and mingle off-leash; it also comes with shade trees and waste stations. Veteran Acres Park is a spacious 140-acre local park that has various athletic fields, picnic shelters, basketball courts, tennis courts, and walking trails that sprawl throughout the grounds and around the perimeter of Crystal Lake. If all that walking has worked up an appetite, Crystal Lake Brewing, and That’s Amore Pizza love dogs and allow them to dine outside on their patio space.
