If your pup has energy to burn, you better head over to Warren Close Bark Park. Located inside KD Park, this off leash area is massive. Your pooch can run around to her heart’s content. Whether she’s playing chase with a new friend, or just doing laps, she’ll have plenty of room. Little dogs have a separate area to hang out in. There is a fee required to use the park, either for each visit or for he year with an annual pass. Once she’s done playing, clip on her leash and wander around KD Park. Rolling hills, wetlands, a lake, and oak trees make this a furrific park for a walk.

Lance Park sits right on the shore of Lake Mary. Pack a sandwich and some biscuits for your pup and head over for the afternoon. Since this park has a boat launch, small stage, beach, and sport courts, it’s a community hot spot. During the summer, a free water ski show happens twice a week. After walking around the park with your pooch, find a spot to chill out and enjoy the view of the lake. Mueller Park is also nearby. Another grassy oasis, this park has great shade trees and sloped hills. Your pooch can search for squirrels and a good fetching stick as he wanders through the trees.

Just across the state line is the Illinois village of Richmond. Only 10 minutes from Twin Lakes, this small community is home to the Elizabeth Lake Nature Preserve. Fur-tunately, leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy the park’s beauty. A two mile loop trail leads you and your canine companion through gorgeous terrain. Soak in the scenery of marsh, meadow, and prairie. Your furry pal won’t be the only critter in town, as several types of fish, animals, and birds reside in these parts. Keep your eyes open for beaver, muskrats, deer, and raccoons.  No doubt about it, your pup will love this place!

Does your pup go mutts about hiking? Pack his leash, some snacks, and water, then make your way over to the Gander Mountain Forest Preserve.  Located in Antioch, Illinois, this beautiful forest is only 10 minutes southeast of Twin Lakes. Parking can be tricky, but once you find a spot, delve into the forest and enjoy the solitude of nature. A three mile loop trail takes you to the Fox River and also leads to a view point of Wilmot Mountain Ski Resort. Several spur trails veer off the path, so you and your four legged hiking buddy can create your own route. Sounds amazing!

Treat your dog to a trip to the Fox River Park. Like its name suggests, this pawsome park sits right on the banks of the Fox River. Located in the small village of Trevor, it’s conveniently located 10 minutes east of Twin Lakes. With over 150 acres to explore, this park will keep your furry friend busy for hours. A network of hiking trails weaves through the park and alongside the river. Your pooch can strut her stuff around the tree lined paths. After her workout, find a quiet spot next to the river and watch the canoes and kayaks float by.
